I know, there won't be many, but I'm going to a family gathering and this is going to occur at Chili's. I'll be content with just ordering water, but I doubt that will go over well

So, what can I eat at Chili's?

okay well i haven't been there since going vegetarian (and i think i've only been there twice in my life) but i did look at their menu for you and a few things seem like they could be made vegan :

chips and salsa - as April mentioned

a salad (of course), and then on their website it says they have Sauteed Mushrooms/Onions/Bell Peppers, and i'm sure you could get like a wrap with veggies

Huh. More choices than Red Lobster. That's where we took my mother today. They had ONE thing to eat, not counting the salad. A couple of sides, ofcourse. But bleh.

I had never really thought of Chili's having anything vegetarian. Maybe I should go by the one they have here.

They have a black bean burger, but I think it has egg whites. Not sure on that one. I love it though.

One thing you can get is the guiltless basil marinara pasta. It's just spaghetti with tomato sauce, pretty boring, but it's something. It comes with parmesan cheese, but I'm sure you can get it without.

Thats what I get, hold the beer because I'm under age of course

the chicken mushroom fajitas hold the chicken, sour cream, and cheese are quite tasty. I've only been once where they didn't have to take something back and fix it but once the food hits the table its edible.

Why order spaghetti marinara from one place, and not eat it, only to go order spaghetti marinara some place else?

Well, this sounds paranoid, but how do I know that the marinara doesn't contain a meat base or somesuch (as has been speculated about Olive Garden)? Since I haven't had the time to contact Chili's yet, and since I can easily go elsehwere, and since someone else is going to eat what I order anyway...No harm done

You could have asked.

You bought it anyway, ethically speaking there is no difference between eating it or not at that point.

Wow, this is going to be the first fireball I've ever lit here!

But to address your statement...Its already been classified as "Vegan", at least, from the sources I can draw information from. I'm just being obsessive

BTW If any of you eat at Papa Gino's don't get their marinara sauce. They take one big pot and cook their meatballs in it, then use the sauce on unsuspecting vegetarians that order cheese bread sticks and pasta. They are good about not giving you any when you request none and they do have Alfredo sauce as a replacement on the pasta.

I'm almost more relieved (albeit disappointed) if they say that 'suchandsuch' does have meat stuffs in it..because then Im pretty sure they are being honest.

If they say its safe (especially right off the bat) Im always a little nervous...and even if they go and come back, who knows they didnt just ask the chef- who lied to them?

I've been lurking here for quite a while and as soon as I saw this topic I felt I'd better register and chime in. I emailed Chili's about vegan options a few months ago and they told me the chips are done in the same oil as meat products, the guiltless grill pasta contains egg protein in the noodles; and although it wasn't mentioned in the email I received from them, I believe I've read in the past that their supposed "vegetarian" soups contain chicken or beef stock. In their email they did, however, tell me that the following items are okay: "Steamed broccoli or corn without butter, warm corm tortillas, salsa, pico de gallo, sliced tomatoes, and a green salad (no cheese) with a side ramekin of balsamic vinegar"--not exactly much to choose from!
