i've seen earth balance in toronto, and orangeville, but not in brampton. and i've been looking for it in brampton for a year now. i think i'm going to have another go at bugging fortinos to stock it.

earth balance is really really REALLY nice stuff- my omni bf reports that its better than real butter, so if you see it round here, stock up (and let me know where you found it too!).

if you do decide to go further afield to get it (definately worth the trip, if you ask me) .... in orangeville its available in harmony wholefoods market, and in toronto its all over the place- the big carrot definately has it (the big carrot has loads of other stuff too, and is generally great in my books). when i'm in the area of orangeville or toronto i make a point to stock up with 4 or 5 tubs of it.

the only other margarine i've found round here thats even close to vegan is some of the fleishmanns margarine (comes in two little tubs joined together by a cardboard box) which is available in every supermarket, and which i think would be vegan, if it didn't have vitamin d3 in it... which is sourced from fish or sheeps wool grease (lanolin) i beleive. i used fleishmanns ages ago before i clued into the d3 thing, and have to report that it tastes pretty insipid anyway, so i'd probably not bother with it (fish and sheep aside).

That's the Fleischmann's no-salt added, which I thought was vegan till I noticed the D3. Grrr.

Ugh, I was so excited to find a margarine that was advertised as "non dairy" at the grocery store that I bought it right away. Took it home, looked at the ingredients? D3. It's always where you least suspect it.

 

I live in Southern Ontario and buy both Soy Garden and Earth Balance. Often, if there is a health food store near you, ask them to order it. If their suppliers have it, they will likely order it in for you.

I have a Superstore right next door to me that has a LOT of really great vegan stuff, so I'm surprised they don't have vegan margarine..maybe they'll order some for me. ..

In the meantime, there is a small health food store at the mall near where I live. I'll check today to see if they have any.

If all else fails...it's off to the big carrot for me! Though since I do the public transit thing..it will be quite a trip...I'll really need to stock up! hehe

Yeesh, who knew there were so many vegans in Brampton! I just moved away from Brampton a year and a half ago. I'm in Southwestern Ontario just 40 mins from Brampton so if you really can't find Earth Balance in Brampton you could always come for a drive. I actually found some Earth Balance shortening yesterday at our local health food store.

you're joking? i can? yey! i've not seen it before in the one near me... though i distinctively remember being really suprised by seeing 'scheese' last time i was in there- so i quite believe it. i will investigate... any excuse to go to highland farms is a good one- they have excellent tofu!

oooh, while i'm slightly off topic and rambling about vegan cheese- i should probably mention that i found vegan gourmet (!!!) in brampton too last week- in fortinos- the big Brisdale one.

yeah, i bought tonnes of it just incase, hehehe.

at this rate i'm not gonna have an excuse to drag my poor long-suffering bf on vegan specialty food quests to the big carrot.

 

I can get Earth Balance at Sobeys (and no where else). I live in New Brunswick.

 

i've seen it in sobeys in newbrunswick too- in bathurst- which makes me wonder why sobeys here (especially as they're stores in much bigger towns) don't have it. i feel that the sobeys here pretty much sucks anyway though.

 

Earth balance is pretty common in TO--worse comes to worse I can always ship it to you? Celeb by PC is apparently vegan, if you get the lactose-free option (don't quote me!).

That's where I live.

 

I live in Calgary and I find Earth Balance at my health food stores, however they have it at Superstore too. I guess it's all supply and demand, if no one demands it in Brampton, you won't find it. You could see if they can order it just for you.

Yeah it's not too far from the beach, but too far to walk up that great big hill. lol Also, we're getting another snow storm tomorrow.

I think I'd prefer you to teleport to our Sobeys rather then you taking it away from us!

For what it's worth - here in NS, EB is carried at sobeys, but not superstore. Annoying.
