Most fast-food eating omnis won't touch "vegetarian" items with a 10-foot pole.

Even though soy might be cheaper to sub in items sometimes, people aren't going to buy it if it's called "vegetarian"- there's just no profit in it, so it's not advertised that way.

Only if they are vegetarian, though. In Jack-in-the-Box's case, they contain beef.

Relatedly, some people are as skeeved by the "vegetarian" label as they are by "soy," which they may equate to be the same thing.

Um yeeeah. I know this.

I'm talking about as far as something supposedly vegetarian being advertised as BEEF. If they had beef tacos, AND OTHER tacos that were veg, they could be labeled vegetarian. If all their regular tacos were just soy and they didn't want anyone to know, they could just call them tacos. NOT "Beef tacos."

Ok apparently i'm not being clear. Whatever. I don't give enough of a **** to explain anymore. I'm out.

It is kind of funny to hear how some people freak out over the words "soy" or "vegeterian",

isn't it? I think it would be hilarious to hand out free tacos or whatever and make the

announcment after they finish stuffing their faces.

if the tacos in question were made of soy meat they would be called "vegetarian beef" because if they were made of soy and called "beef" tacos you would have some really angry omni's out there.

i say again- you'd have to be a moron to mistake mock meats for real, much less believe that any fast food place sells mock meats. i haven't eaten beef in 15 years and i can tell the difference in a second.

My friend's mom (my friend was "vegan"... meaning, she claimed she was but cheated a lot) tried to tell me that it was soy also because the lady at the window told her. I didn't believe her and I'm glad I didn't. Yuck!

My friend also did speed when she claimed herself as a vegan, so now my family had a bad mental image of vegans. I tell them they shouldn't feel that way and they know why (they knew about her drug use), but they say they can't get her sick and drugged up image out of their heads. Yes... the people who raised me. *shakes head*

Well, I know it says BEEF taco. I have heard from several people that it is soy meat. I actually called jack and the box corp office, and spoke to someone who seemed very knowledgable. He said that the meat was made out of soy and had no ground beef in the product at all. So, that asnwers my questions. Everyone has their own beliefs on what is veg and what isn't. If you aren't 100 percent sure, you probably shouldn't eat it.

Your guy at "corp" is an idiot.

Nicked from the actual Jack in the Box site (US):

I'm pretty sure they can be sued for fraud if they advertise them as beef, and list beef in the ingredients, but it doesn't actually contain any beef.

I'm sure they contain some beef and probably twice as much soy.
