Nausea from juicing?

Does anyone here who juices ever get nauseous after drinking the juice? I sometimes do, and right now it's the worst I've ever had. I drank beet (including greens), carrot, celery, ginger juice and now I'm very, very nauseous, to the point that I threw up a little and I'm still nauseous. Any ideas of why this is and how I can prevent it in the future?

I can't help you with how to prevent it. But I have similar experiences with any vegetable juice - carrot, beet and wheatgrass is the worst. EVERYTIME I have tried it I have literally thrown up, and not because it tasted gross, I quite liked it....

So I would be interested to see if anyone has the reason why and how to prevent it as well???

Drinking any sort of fruit juice tends to nauseate me pretty bad. I can eat whole fruit though without a problem. Eating too many raw veggies also makes me nauseated... so I imagine juicing them would too.

I somehow doubt this as I eat a very healthy vegan diet and even if I believed in "detoxifying," I don't think it would be happening moments after drinking the juice. I'm glad to hear that other people have felt this way too though, so it's not just me. Maybe I should dilute the juice? Maybe it has something to do with the potency?

how quickly are you drinking it, and how much at a time? maybe its just too much all at once for your body to handle. ....like how little kids get sick if they eat too much candy or rich food.

i mean, it is just juice, but if you were eating it whole, i bet it'd be a huge bunch of food. take out the fibre, and you've still got everything else in there that your body has to process.

Plus, the sugars in the juice are gonna be absorbed much more quickly than if you ate the whole vegetable. A whole lot of sugar all at once, and a belly full of liquid...

Drink slowly. Cut it with water if you need to. eat some solid food as well...

Are any of you diluting your juices? You should be diluting them anywhere from 50% juice/50% water to 25% juice/75% water. I used to make myself sick too until I read somewhere (can't remember which book) that you should always dilute your fresh juices.

I wonder if certain items are just hard on the stomach overall... I mean, we're not cows, we aren't necessarily made to have nothing but roughage, if you know what I mean. All that acid in the juice might be what's triggering that much upset.

Personally, I almost always have this problem when drinking straight green tea/pu-erhs/oolongs... I love it to death so I can't help myself, but after my third cup my stomach feels really uncomfortable for the rest of the day... I never throw up from it but it's rather unpleasant... Anybody else have similar reactions? Herbal teas aren't as bad... could I be sensitive to caffeine?

No, there's no roughage in juice, and veg juices are alkaline. They are simply too strong when undiluted, with the exceptions of juices from vegetables already high in water content like cucumbers and celery.

Its more likely the tannic acid in teas that is upsetting your stomach.

Try mixing some more fruits with your juices. It might just be the taste, cause honestly lots of them taste horrible. Maybe make green smoothies instead? Or maybe start low (lots of fruit juice, little greens) then work your way up to more greens. Also, make sure the vegetables are organic

Also somebodyelse cucumbers are fruits lol

I don't see why people are getting sick with juicing. I guess it's just cause the taste then. The only other things I can think of is that the fruits/veggies aren't organic and it's the pesticides, or your diet is really crappy and not used to health foods. I dunno, I find it weird.

Just try diluting them jenni-anti-fur. Though if your happy without them that good too. But if you don't want to give up on them, since your fiance bought the machine, just add water. There are good books out there too that offer lots of recipes for tastier juice combos than just drinking them plain, too.

1. It's not the taste, because I like the taste.

2. I only juice organic stuff.

3. My diet is far from crappy.

4. It is, however, weird.

I juiced this morning and had terrible nausea as well. i juiced 1 apple, 5 cups of grapes, ginger, and other mixed berries.. OMG i thought i was going to spew. but i ate saltine crackers then a few dill pickles.. I feel MUCH better now! Maybe the reason ginger is included in some of the recipes is because juicing can cause nausea.. i dont know, but i know ginger is suppose to keep you from having nausea. I had wondered if maybe i hadn't put enough ginger in it..
