I'm not going to try and deceive anybody here. I'm a hunter.

Here's my problem... I have several vegetarians in my life who I care about, including a young lady I love to spend time with. In an effort to cater to her a bit, I've decided to try and cook us a vegetarian meal.

This is a giant leap for me.

What is your favorite main course and favorite side? I want to make my venture into this the best possible experience I can and hopefully pick up some ideas so even when I'm serving meat, I have plenty of original ideas to cook for her.

I've been to the recipe forum. If you could just give me a title of a recipe of a simple run down (I'm an excellent chef, I can wing it with minimals) of ingredients and process, I'd be much obliged.

I hope I don't get hammered to badly for hunting. I don't eat processed meat, Mcnightmare burgers or KFC and I'm attempting to do my best for a friend who lives a differnt lifestyle.

Any help would be appreciated.

in b4 mods comes here.

but when you make a vegetarian meal, you can either make an original one or just have a meal with meat and then replace the meat with some kind of "substitute".

My favorite meal are either lentil stew or "fake" Bolognese sauce with pasta.

That's quite nice of you to do for her.

I really like potatoes mixed with tofu and green beans with rice. Simple and delicious.

Here are some websites that have good recipes. The first two are really well organized, should be easy to find something matching what you want.

http://www.vegetariansrecipes.org/
http://www.vegkitchen.com/vegan-dinner-recipes/
http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/everyd...rian/main.aspx

Have you thought about asking her what her favorite meal is? Just a thought.

Thoughts, in no particular order:
- There's a difference between being honest and over-sharing. You didn't need to say you're a hunter. It's not all that relevant to this particular discussion. And if you felt the need to admit it, you didn't need to comment on it twice! Once will do.
- Cooking a vegan meal for a woman is an excellent way to impress her. My husband did that for me on our first date and that is one reason why he is now my husband.
- You can decide for yourself if you want to ask her what her favorite meal is or what kinds of foods she likes, but at least ask her if she has any allergies or if there are certain foods she really does not like. It would be a shame to spend a lot of time on a meal that's made of her least favorite vegetables.
- For me, I think you'd want to steer clear of spinach, kale, a lot of garlic, or a lot of beans. I love those things, but for an intimate meal with someone you're just getting to know those foods could pose some problems.
- I would try a simple pasta dish (like capellini pomodoro or pasta primavera - no cheese if she's vegan) with a nice crisp green salad and/or minestrone soup. Don't be too adventurous and give yourself so much stress that you can't enjoy the meal yourself.
- Personally, I'd shy away from fake meats on this occassion seeing as how you're a hunter and she might think you're trying to trick her into eating real meat. (Believe it or not, that happens to veg*ns sometimes so don't risk it.) Plus, it's good to show her that you can make and eat meals without even having to think of meat at all.

Thanks for the input. Now that you mention several staple dishes, I'm sure I can make those.

I don't know what I was expecting. I grew up with 3 things on my plate. Meat, veggies and a starch. Now, with 1 of the 3 not on the plate, I'm searching for more diversity for the menu. I shouldn't have to rely on meat to make or be the center piece of the meal.

I also didn't want to make pasta or something 'garden variety', excuse the pun. I'm sure she's been macaroni and marinara'd to death by previous men.

I want to impress her, that's all. Putting a little effort into this is the first thing I want to do.

Thanks for the help.

Know what else might impress her? Going vegetarian/vegan for a couple days a week.

This. Trust me, that will impress her far more.
