I don't know about anyone else, but I love to read vegetarian/vegan quotes. I thought it would be nifty to start a quote thread where people can either post their favorite quotes or their own original quotes.

Here's some of my own:

"Veal, pork, bacon, poultry, venison, sausage, pepperoni, balogne, meat...all clever euphemisms for 'dead animal'."

"I refuse to eat anything that once had a beating heart."

"Vegetarianism hasn't limited me. It has liberated me."

Well, that's all I have for now.

I am not a chicken.

Here's one of my own:

"Does that have anything from an animal in it? Like, fat or anything? Cause I'm vegetarian and also allergic to anything from an animal is the reason. So if there's anything in my order that comes from an animal, I might have an allergic reaction and begin foaming at the mouth and spasming all over the floor. Seriously, it's been done before. I ordered someting and it was made wth chicken stock and I totally like began haveing a seizure. Meat will killl me. Make sure there is nothing in my order of I might have to sue later, assuming I live."

I love my signature quote below. I got it from a Vegetarian book. It is exactly why I went vegetarian. I feel bad for the animals because they go through pain, anxiety, and fear.

That's the one I would have probably posted. A great quote.

Lol. I wasn't calling anyone a chicken. I just happen to say it randomly in everyday conversation. Seb - I remember reading yours and thinking *I really like that one* and wondering where it came from. Now I know! Awesome quotes so far everyone.

The Lankavatara Sutra (Buddhist) is great on the subject of vegetarianism - even for non-Buddhists - and contains some of my favorite veg quotes.

The Lankavatara Sutra

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened"-Anatole France

"The worst cruelty towards animals is not to hate them but to be indifferent towards them. The essence of inhumanity" (Sir George Bernard Shaw)

In 400 BC Hippocrates said, "Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food." Thomas Edison, inventor and visionary, said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame and diet, and the causes of disease."

One farmer says to me, "You cannot live on vegetable food solely, for it furnishes nothing to make the bones with;" and so he religiously devotes a part of his day to supplying himself with the raw material of bones; walking all the while he talks behind his oxen, which, with vegetable-made bones, jerk him and his lumbering plow along in spite of every obstacle. ~Henry David Thoreau

"Thousands of people who say they ‘love' animals sit down once or twice a day to enjoy the flesh of creatures who have been utterly deprived of everything that could make their lives worth living and who endured the awful suffering and the terror of the abattoirs." - Jane Goodall

"But for the sake of some little mouthful of flesh, we deprive a soul of the sun and light and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy." –Plutarch

"As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower beings, he will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seeds of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love" -Pythagorus

Truly man is the king of beasts, for his brutality exceeds them. We live by the death of others. We are burial places." - Leonardo Da Vinci

"I am not interested to know whether vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't...The pain which it inflicts upon unconsenting animals is the basis of my enmity toward it, and it is to me sufficient justification of the enmity without looking further." -Mark Twain

When a man wants to murder a tiger, it's called sport; when the tiger wants to murder him, it's called ferocity. --George Bernard Shaw

Quotes by some "famous" Christians.

"And what is a merciful heart? It is the hearts burning for the sake of the entire creation, for men, for birds, for animals, for demons and for every created thing; and by the recollection and sight of them the eyes of a merciful man pour forth abundant tears. From the strong and vehement mercy which grips his heart and from his great compassion, his heart is humbled and he cannot bear to hear or see any injury or slight sorrow in creation. For this reason he continually offers up tearful prayer, even for irrational beasts, for the enemies of the truth and for those who harm him, that they be protected and receive mercy. And in like manner he even prays for the family of reptiles because of the great compassion that burns in his heart without measure in the likeness of God."

(Isaac the Syrian)

"I believe in my heart that faith in Jesus Christ can and will lead us beyond an exclusive concern for the well-being of other human beings to the broader concern for the well-being of the birds in our backyards, the fish in our rivers, and every living creature on the face of the earth. "\t

(Wesley, John)

"If we cut up beasts simply because they cannot prevent us and because we are backing our own side in the struggle for existence, it is only logical to cut up imbeciles, criminals, enemies, or capitalists for the same reasons. "

(C.S. Lewis)

"He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."

(Immanuel Kant)

“If to be feelingly alive to the sufferings of my fellow-creatures is to be a fanatic, I am one of the most incurable fanatics ever permitted to be at large.”

HAHA. That's funny because I play the allergy card sometimes because I can tell I would get meat products otherwise.

As I once told my good friend, Kat, "I don't eat anything that once took a sh*t in it's life".

For some reason, putting it like that, makes sense.

From the Bagavad Gita:

Krishna says, patram pushpam phalam toyam: “You can offer Me a leaf or a fruit or some water or a little juice—just something small—and I’ll accept it.”
