I've been craving donuts lately but don't want to pay an arm and a leg to have vegan donuts delivered. I found some used Donut Express pans on E-bay so I decided to try them out. They come with 3 donut pans: one for regular donuts, one for mini-donuts and one for filled (no hole) donuts. It also comes with a pamphlet with recipes and a little pastry injector to fill the donuts and 6 different tips for decorating.

I read some reviews that said that the donuts were hard to get out of the pan, so I greased the pans heavily with vegetable shortening before baking and the donuts slid right out with no problem.

I adapted one of the recipes to make it vegan and I used my own recipes for vanilla glaze and chocolate glaze. They don't taste like traditional fried donuts but they're still yummy and my family liked them. I took a photo for you to drool over!

The batter was too thick to easily pour into the pans and it was a little tricky to fill them evenly and avoid overfilling them. I tried put the batter into a cookie press with the simple round decorator attachment and fill them that way. The pans were much easier to fill that way, especially the mini pan.

I'll probably be experimenting with different recipes, toppings, and fillings, so I'll have a lot of extra donuts in my house. If your going to be in Binghamton, NY stop by for some vegan donuts!

If you want to avoid having to clean your cookie press just use a zip-top bag with the corner cut off to pipe the filling into the pans.

jojob, your donuts look awesome. I wish I was in NY!!

I make donuts all the time too. I have a NORPRO non-stick mini-donut pan that works like a dream. I make the whole wheat baking mix that I get from Southaven Farm -- www.southavenfarm.com -- and then I use their glaze recipe too (basic glaze recipe is here: http://www.southavenfarm.com/recipe_...hp?recipeid=49. They are vegetarian but when I want to make them for my vegan sister, I use soy milk and soy yogurt or pureed tofu. I always use organic sugar, sometimes turbinado, for the sweetener. Very yummy. Now I want to go make some donuts!!
