I'm doing a project for school where I have to make a restaurant and I decided to plan my idea veg / vegan restaurant. It's really interesting since often if you do actually find a veg restaurant there are those few things that you don'g care for, or thinks that could be added to the menu - and that's IF you can find an all veg place! SO I would be interested to know what what your ideal veg restaurant would be like? What would make your restaurant the best?

Poppy said it all in the 'heart attack grill' thread.

If we could get some cute veg*ns to dress up as, I dunno, pirates maybe? We could compete with this!

When you sit down at the table, you should get a basket of various chips and a bowl of hummus, just like at Mexican restaurants you get chips and salsa. Oh, and a veggieburger would not be found on the menu.

My ideal restaurant would be right next door to my house, they deliver to my workplace and anywhere else I happen to be, and they're such philanthropists they charge me less that it would cost to buy all my food at grocery stores, farmers' markets and bulk food stores. But, their business is completely salient, and their workers are paid a living wage. And they're open 24/7. (This is my imagination, remember.)

All manner of vegan food would be on the menu, and it's so good I'd never notice the cheese isn't dairy and the guacamole doesn't have dairy sour cream.

Extra emphasis would be put on south Asian and South American cuisines. Plus Ethiopian, American comfort foods, Italian and Spanish. Delivery food arrives within 15 minutes of being ordered, and when I go in for a relaxing meal with a good friend, they take their time. They just know these things. Servers come at just the right breaks in the conversation, and all of them are excellent conversationalists themselves.

On weekends, they should have a dance floor and all the music I like, with none that I don't. All kinds of people should show up and dance, but not so many there's no room for me to get into the action. They should definitely not have a bunch of seedy drunks stumbling around.

Oh, given that they are right next to my house, I would want them to be quiet when I am trying to sleep. But they're open 24/7, so I don't know how that would work exactly. Oh well, it works in my fantasy.

It would be a vegan pizzeria. Everything would be decorated in baroque style, but with no animal-based materials. Jazz would set the mood. And of course, the whole restaurant would be located under water.

Homemade breads served with EB and homemade desserts, like cookies, brownies, cakes. Lots of fruit. And I would include Soy Delicious. Soy lattes and cappuccinos.

For real food, hummus, quacamole, chips, marinated veggies, like artichokes, beets, olives. Rice and bean dishes, eggplant parm w/no cheese. Tofu stirfry with lots of onions and mushrooms. Cous cous w/sundried tomatoes and grilled veggies.

And I would want to be open for breakfast and serve Corny Tofu French Toast, pancakes, tofu scramble, better than cinnabons cinnamon buns, hot and cold cereal with your choice of soy/almond/rice milk. That's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure there's more stuff.

As in, the restaurant is flooded to the ceiling, or it is inside an air bubble underwater?

It could be a part of a submarine, a la 20,000 leagues under the sea.

No, the geographical location is the Bermuda triangle. If a pizza doesn't get delivered to the table, it's usually explained as a paranormal disappearance.

It would be vegetarian comfort food (with of course healthy, high protein options too.) I'd love to see:

Organic versions whenever possible:

-Delicious sandwich combinations with fresh-baked bread - both hot (toasted) and cold

-hand tossed pizzas with awesome toppings

-wraps!!! from falafel to burritos

-shephards pie, casseroles, lentil loaf, pasta bakes etc served by the slice ;-)

-pies, cakes and fruit

That would be my ideal place, I would probably live there, lol.

Hey, those are great suggestions I esp like yours skylark!!! Halarious. I was thinking an Organic, veg and vegan cafe sort of place, with vegan - german style chocolate cake, tofu puddings, - meals ( that I am yet to think of), and a juice bar! Yum healthy. And the walls would have neat contempary art, or a natural sort of zen atmosphere with big picture windows, and one orchid on each table. I'd like to have hummus there. I'd like to have lots of different foods, but it might be a little confusing.

You should come to Portland. We have about a dozen of those here.

My ideal restaurant would serve nice seasonal vegetarian food, with perhaps some local non-veg offerings to keep my client base growing, have a wonderful wine & beer list, and a cozy atmosphere. Food would be things like a cheese & fruit platter, maybe some toasts with locally-made spreads, an olive sampler, nice sandwiches and entrees (like pumpkin ravioli), and decadent desserts. It'd be downtown, so it'd be a nice place for happy hour after work, or mom's birthday or..

basically, it'd be my favorite restaurant in portland that remi and I go to a few times a month.

I know a few other people who really want to do this over at Dr. Fuhrman's health boards as well.

I myself would love to do this and have fancied the idea many times. But first we have to have customers. I mean lots of customers. So that means educating people about the whole picture and not just the animal rights issues. The environment and equally important, the health benefits.

So we need to create a heavy heavy demand for this kind of food. Secondly my restaurant would be a healthy vegan restaurant. I would have a extremely small customer base. Like 1% of 1% IF I went after the way things are right now.

If I had a restaurant it would consist of daily/nightly classes on health and nutrition. People have to also know why they should eat this way for health reasons.

Great thread BTW
