I'm not sure if we have a thread like this in here, so I thought I'd start one. Let's list some books (NOT cookbooks!) that we feel ALL veg*ns (or those wanting to become veg*n) should read and have for reference, etc.

Here's my required reading list!

Diet For A New America, by John Robbins

Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser

Transition to Vegetarianism, by Rudolph Ballantine, M.D.

The Vegetarian Female, by Anika Avery-Grant, R.D.

Spiritual Nutrition and The Rainbow Diet, by Gabriel Cousens, M.D.

Becoming Vegan, by Brenda Davis, R.D. & Vesanto Melina, M.S., R.D.

Yes, Vegetarian Times mag is a good one. Veggie Life mag is also good!

I totally forgot I have Being Veg For Dummies, too! It is a good reference, especially when you're new to it.

"Mad Cowboy" sounds interesting. I'll have to go find it on Amazon...

In no particular order:

"Mad Cowboy" - Howard Lyman

"The Food Revolution" - John Robbins

"Diet For A New America" John Robbins

"Fast Food Nation" - Eric Schlosser

"The Vegan Sourcebook" - Joanne Stepaniak

I also have to credit Peter Singer's "Animal Liberation" for having more to do with my decision to become a vegan than any other book.

I would like to say either Fast Food Nation or Diet For a New America. However, most non-veggies do NOT want to hear about all of the nasty stuff in their food, so unfortunately I don't see too many of them even reading these books. People will excuse away anything to justify what they want to eat.
