There is a guy in my program who is very smart and argumentative and somewhat self-centered. Many people find him annoying. I find him OK except that he is what I consider rude in our conversations. (I also think he has a thing for me, plus, he has a (only semi-serious) goal of getting it on with as many of the women in the program as possible) He likes to talk about himself a lot around me, trying to impress me with how rich his family is. Instead of asking me about myself, he tells me about myself, like, once he said that I must, "Have a wild sexual side to me and I just need someone to unleash it." Hmm. I wonder who he would suggest?

He says all this stuff half joking. He's not mean, or a liar as far as I know. He's decent, but self-centered. He's a very young, cocky pup. He can't really relate to others, and he tries in all of the wrong ways.

So he wrote me an email asking if we could spend more time together in the next two months so we could be better friends (He's leaving here in May), and then we could go to Paris for two months.

Traveling would be nice, but I am not sure I want to travel with him, nor do I like people trying to manipulate me with money. What would you say to this?

I would say he is very insecure and has got into the habit of bolstering his confidence up with money. Still, you could ditch him once you got to Paris, it's a big city!

I'm sure you know this but regardless of what you decide you should make it clear what you expect (or more importantly, don't expect) from the relationship. Doesn't sound like you'd have much fun on the trip. Yeah it would be nice to travel but I'd save it for a time when you'd be able to make it a better experience.

I wrote an email confirming that he was indeed asking me to go to Paris, he said, no, he just wanted to spend time with me the two months before he goes to paris. I didn't read it that way at first, but I showed it to someone else and they said, "Yes, he's asking you to go." I guess by "I have 2 months to enjoy myself" he means Cleveland (?) Well, problem solved. He's still a control freak.

That's... rather strange. It sounds kind of like the owner of the store I work at asking everyone he sees, "Come on, drive to New York with me to pick up peaches." It's a long drive, and I don't blame him for wanting company, but sometimes it sounds like he wants to get particular females alone. 70-year-old womanizer, what a fantastic boss.

Summer starts in Cleveland on the 24th April? I'd have said going to Paris in the summer meant during July and August, in 4 months time... call me old fashioned.

Forget Paris... come and visit Canterbury and me . Paris is just a train ride away from here!
