... but I thought I had better be polite and formally introduce myself before randomly posting everywhere.

Hi, I'm Holly, I have been vegetarian for 13 years now. I'm here as I have recently started thinking more about how passionate I am about being vegetarian and how it is part of who I am. For this reason I wanted to join a forum to chat with like minded people and share recipes, tips, moans etc
Thanks for having me.

One of the rules of Veggieboards is that you have to send me cake.

So, come on. Cake me.

I don't make good cake, but I make a mean flapjack. Don't think it would post well though!

Welcome! You should probably send some flapjacks to all of the mods too. You know, just to get on our good side.

Hello and welcome to Veggieboards, Holly.

Any chance of you becoming vegan? Thirteen years is a long time to be veggie without being tempted by veganism.
A vegan diet is more compassionate than a veggie diet IMHO.

I have thought about that a lot.
One day I would like to be vegan. I have gradually over the past couple of years pretty much cut out milk from my diet replacing with soya/almond milk and have cut down on cheese. When I turned veggie I was twelve and everyone around me were militant meat eaters so the first few years were a bit shaky just getting used to it, with occasional slips. I'm in no rush to go completely vegan as I know that if I push myself I will probably end up sitting in a corner sobbing eating bacon sarnies! But it is something I hope to gradually convert myself to, and when I see myself in the future, I do see myself as leading a life completely free of animal cruelty.
How do you find being vegan in the UK? any tips? It wouldn't bother me at home as I cook most meals from scratch, but I love going to restaurants. Do you find any chains cater well for vegans?

Since i became vegan back in 1996, things have steadily got better in terms of labelling and a wider range of vegan products. Of course when buying new items i still have to religiously read the labels. I like to shop at health food stores for quite a few things, and i find most of the people who work at these places to have a pretty good understanding of veganism.

Have you got a current copy of The Animal Free Shopper? This is published by The Vegan Society, and can be very useful whether you are looking for vegan food, drink, toiletries, household products or healthcare remedies etc.

Regarding restaurants, I'm not the best person to ask about eating out, because i rarely do it, I much prefer to make my own meals, and in the process probably save a lot of money!
Have you checked the restaurants thread in the UK forum?
