Hello! My name is Renee, I'm an artist, and I am a very very new member of the world of vegetarianism.
I've always "talked-the-talk," so to speak about animal rights, and not wearing fur, etc etc, and have always had pets. But as an avid foodie, I had a hard time reconsiling my "try any and every meat/body part/dish at least once" with the idea of cruelty-free eating. I couldn't "walk-the-walk."
I had what I call my "Please, Lisa! Don't eat me!" moment a few nights ago over a bowl of pho (Vietnamese spiced beef & noodle soup) in Orlando. I was reading one of those free local magazines on consious eating, and learned a bit about the cruel conditions animals are subjected to, and the effect of meat eating on the environment. I also have a family history rife with obesity, heart disease and cancer on both sides.
Suddenly that delicious bowl of beef looked....well, disgusting.
Which leads me to now. I feel that I'll likely have an edge in my conversion, because a) I do a lot of cooking, and am knowledgeable on different herbs, spices, dressings, vinegars, as well as fruit, veggies, and grains from all over the world, and b) some of my favorite ethnic cuisines - Indian, Middle Eastern, and South East Asian - are FULL of vegetarian options.
So, rather than bemoaning the loss of steak or whatever (never a huge fan of it anyway), I'm actually really, really excited. Happy and looking forward to being healthier, thinner (since I'm tying this in with yoga, swimming, & cardio), more ethical, and more earth concious.
But, again, since I'm new, please forgive me (and feel free to correct) if anything above was phrased wrong, incorrect, etc etc. More than anything, I'm here to learn & make some like-minded online friends!
So, hi!
