My mother's friend made me a batch of vegan tamales. She makes them for her vegan daughter and I. I put my 2 dozen in the freezer after pulling out two for dinner. I forgot to ask her for salsa though. Ohh there is always next time.

I also talked the health food store owner into doing another round of soup. He said he was closed for the year (soup shop) but I told him no...that the weather is still yucky. So this weekened I can go pick up my vegan chili...I have been craving it.

Can you tell I love beans?

Being the bean lover that I am and Ms. hardcore vegan shopper I have searched online for people that make them. There is a place out in Los Angeles that does some yummy looking ones with soy cheese to curry flavoring! They cost about $3 each though!

To make them is a bit tricky. One can always make tamale pie though...Close enough but simple!

It is good to network and have your family network on behalf of you. My mom hooked me up with yummy vegan tamales and for the last few years I get a batch every few months.

We have a great place downtown that is all about vegetarian tamales. They have several kinds, but only one that's vegan, but still. I think they rock.

And the neatest part(why I'm here mentioning it) is that they can be ordered online and shipped to you. So that could be very useful... I always think about sending some up to my aunt or something.

One of my closests friends' family runs a tamale factory in Austin, TX called Rosalita's. They make vegan tamales because my friend is vegetarian (an oddity in her traditional Mexican American family). Anyway, I don't think they sell much beyond the region, but it's worth looking into...

A tamale is a corn-mush (masa) shell filled with beans to tofu and then wrapped in a corn husk and steamed till cooked.

I had some for dinner tonight...I was going to have museli but opted for beans instead!
