Hi,

I've lurked here a little bit and have just decided to join. I've just got to say, "Wow.... so many vegans and vegetarians! I'm impressed!"

OK, to introduce myself I am female, 31 and have been a vegetarian for about 16 years. I usually don't eat dairy (I'm allergic) and almost never eat eggs (they make me feel queasy) but I'm not properly vegan because I do lapse sometimes and eat cake with butter and eggs in it, or maybe a very occasional yoghurt.

I don't have any veggie friends! Would you believe it? My friends and family are pretty cool with my vegetarianism, but after years of being the only one I've got lonely for other vegetarians. So I went looking and found this place. I'm hoping for lots of nice veg*n related discussions with like minded people,

Until then, Kiz

Hi! I suppose Australia isn't the most veggie place on earth

Plenty of discussions here- leap right in, or there's the slut for power thread where we ramble on even if no one is reading us.

There are a couple of other Australians here. Somewhere, lurking probably. I'm in the uk

Three cheers for VB! I don't have anyone in my frequently-encountered ring of people I know who are veg*ns, either. I had a coworker who was a vegetarian, but before we could really discuss it, she quit. I know OF a couple of people at my college who are veggies, but unfortunately their social rings don't join with mine very often. I enjoy being around this veggie Kelly, but she is so busy with theater, and I have the newspaper and two jobs, so we don't see each other often. I'm talking, like, I see her two or three times a semester, if that.

Hooroo, Kiz.

We welcome all visitors from the Land of "Oz."

I probably "know" more Kiwis though. Dunno why.

It probably has something to do with quoting too many

Men at Work or Rolf Harris lyrics at them.

Best wishes.

Joe

Hi all, and thank you for the welcome.

I meet a lot of Aussies when I play Canasta on-line for some reason.

Like I said, all my friends are very good about my vegetarianism but there are just some things that you just wanna hash out with a fellow veggie. Anyway, thanx again for the welcome, talk to you all soon,

Kiz

I'm in Australia (Sydney).

I find it's quite okay for veg*n food, although I have a mind to start up an import company to import some of the vegan stuff I hear about in the US (and which, as company director, I would taste test, and then keep my own private hoard of my favourites).

I could export Australian vegan foods to the US (hmmm, Wallaby bars).

Hi Kurmudgeon!

I'm from Wollongong. Food wise it's pretty good here too, but when I lived in Sydney I lived near Paddy's Markets. Gosh I miss the fruit and veg from there, nowhere else is the same.

Hi Kiz.

Is there much smoke down there in the 'gong (I've always wanted to say that)? Sydney was blanketed in smoke; and as I don't know of any bushfires up here, I am assuming it's drifted all the way up from Canberra/the ACT. Although it seems too settled to have done that.

Hi Husky! (or do you prefer Corn Star?)

Yep, Kurmudgeon it was pretty smoky here for the last couple of days. It's been raining here today though and everything is smelling much nicer.

Yikes! Did you hear they're sending out troops off the the Middle East tomorrow morning? Yikes! Really don't like to think about that.

Yeah I heard. Yesterday (Wednesday) there was a lot of activity in the skies above the near-by RAF base (transport and fighter planes flying across all day). I assume that has something to do with it.
