Hello! Most of you know me, some of you love me, and I have a feeling that there are a lot who don't care. For those who would like to help me study abroad this fall in Barcelona, Spain, there is something you can do. I have yet to find a flight that connects me at home to the place where the international group flight takes off.

This is where you come in. I know a lot of you have much more experience than I when it comes to finding good flights. (Considering that I've never done this before, having more experience isn't hard.) I've looked on Travelocity and a few other sites, but I'm not very literate in the way those sites are set up and what certaint things mean.

I would greatly appreciate it if any of you could either suggest other places to look for inexpensive flights, or if you could do some actual searching to see what flights are possibilities. If you're interested in going the extra mile for me, here is what I need:

September 6th: I need to leave from either Cleveland, Akron/Canton, or Pittsburg and get to Newark, New Jersey. The international flight leaves at 5:10pm on the 6th, so a morning flight to Newark would be best.

December 21st: I am scheduled to arrive in Newark at 12:40pm. I need to get back to either Cleveland, Akron/Canton, or Pittsburg, where my family can pick me up.

I've been told that when I'm dealing with international flights, it's best to have layovers of at least 5-6 hours.

Yes, money is an object. At least, I'm more able to go if this flight doesn't cost me my last $1,000. BTW, I have no interest in flying first class. Coach is a-ok.

I really appreciate this, folks! Those of you who have been reading Slut For Power II are aware that I've been scared to death and have put off intensive flight searching until now. Any help y'all could offer would be GREAT.

I travel at least 3-4 times a year. I've always found it the same or better to go directly through the airline rather than like Travelocity or Orbitz, etc.

I've found Continental to be cheapest as of late. Don't forget to get your free frequent flyer account no matter which airline you choose. Points add up to free stuff. Even if this is the only flight you take, you may get enough points to score something small.

If I had time I'd actually do the search for you but I am swamped at work (just checking in on my lunch hour actually).

Have fun!

What I normally do is look in the newspaper for airlines & travel agents. Call one up and get a price, then call another and try to get them to beat the price. Repeat the process.

I'm in Canada and I flew to Ireland for $250.00 CDN. It can be a bit of a pain, but it's worth it.

Good luck!

$250 canadian? thats like $50 in the US

anyway, Skylark, try AirTran Airways. I saw a round trip ticket, connecting thru atlanta for $250, including all fees. It went from Akron to Newark on the dates, and in the realm of times you wanted.

Skylark,

I used to work for Americna Airlines in NYC and have done a ton of business travel. Look at Air Tran as someone said. You can get from Laguardia to Newark for about $40 each way in about an hour.

So a cheap fare to Laguardia would work.

Hey hey, not so fast! Don't you want to help put me through college?

I'm only joking.

Anyway, Skylark, I'm not much help here, but if you find good deals, do post which airline, etc. I'm hoping to help The_Gazumper find really cheap tickets for his trip to the US.

Good luck!

Buddha, don't close that checkbook! I'm just waiting to post THAT thread until I get a PayPal account or whatever set up so I can accept funds online. Don't worry, I'll let you help monitarily, especially since you're so willing.

I haven't travelled abroad for several decades, but anyway I am wondering whether this trip is your Barcelona one or another seperate trip, which is it??...

Anyway, let us know whether or not you get what you want after enquiring at the AirTran site...

(Is AirTran an internal airline?? Me being from the UK I am not familiar with it and I tend to assume this is a USA internal flight site, right?).

Yes, VA, this is the Barcelona trip. One and the same. I'm currently looking for a flight from my area of Ohio to Newark because that's where I board the international flight to Barcelona with the rest of the exchange group.

My dad helped me out by doing some online looking. So far, the best thing I've found is AirTran, Sept. 6th, early AM flight, aprox $250 round trip. I also got to thinking about some other options. What if I and one of my parents drove to Newark? If we didn't have to stay the night in a hotel, it might end up being much less expensive. My church denomination is known for hospitality--in fact, there's this program called Mennonite Your Way. This hooks up Mennonite travelers with Mennonite host families. My family and I have done this a couple of times. I don't know if there are any MYW hosts in the Newark area, but it's worth a shot.

Being called Skylark, you should be a natural at flight!!

I do see now you wrote "Barcelona, Spain" which was as I thought as your destination for this trip of yours!!...

Anyway, this being the trip you're going for, lets see what experience and preparedness we can get you on this, not

that I have a clue either, but certainly now is the time you

wanna get making advance bookings and that way maybe

you can get a discount on your tickets for doing so.....

Yeah I'm a 'sure bet' skylark fan and don't I know it!! =)

Love you skylark!! =) Woe, thats scary!!! Flying is easy!! (??)

When was the last time you flew if ever??? Actually I don't know

how I would fare on an aeroplane, I guess fairly okay, given that

we all may hitch a plane ride together!! Yeah we'll rent a plane

out and take all of VB with us just to make it cheaper for you!

Quote:

Auuuuuuuuuurgggg.... I totally should have booked that flight on AirTran last week before going on vacation. I didn't. I wanted to shop around for prices more. *bangs head on table* Nothing is as cheap as it was a week ago.

I've narrowed the search to departing from CAK or CLE, CAK being the first choice.

***Edited to remove the idiotic statement about wanting a nonstop flight from CAK to EWR***

Tomorrow morning I'm getting up before my dad leaves for work and asking him to quickly look over what I've found and hand over his credit card. I'd pay for it on a credit card of my own, but I don't have one.

*And that's the way I like it, uh hu uh hu....*
