Whoa... this shows I'm really lazy now. I'm posting a new thread to say this rather than go to the end of SFP or somewhere else. I just wanted to explain where I've been and what's going on--and I wanted to do it quickly.

As you can tell by my title, I've been working a ton. This week and last week I've worked 55 hours/week, between my two jobs. That leaves me very tired by the end of the day, and I have to get up usually by 6:30 AM the next day to make it to work on time, depending on when I'm scheduled.

Next week my family and I are going to be on vacation in a cabin at a lake, so I won't be around AT ALL then. Sorry folks! Once in awhile I do have to completely separate from some forms of modern technology.

My trip to Spain is looking a little brighter. The money situation is doable, and it will be much better once I hear from my grandpa about how much he wants to donate to the cause. He's promised to contribute, but I don't know how much yet.

I'm also hoping to talk the owner of the small store where I work to give me at least part of my Christmas bonus early. These bonuses are usually handed out in the early part of December, and it's 5% of whatever you earned in the year up to that point. I know I won't make any money at the store while I'm in Spain, and I could really use the money in Spain. It's kinda far-fetched (not to mention presumptuous to even ask), but stranger things have happened in that store.

I haven't yet nailed down transportation arrangements for getting to Newark. There is the possibility of some sapeople who live within an hour of Newark who might be willing to host me and one of my parents for a night if we drove there, but that is yet to be determined. (These folks are part of the same church as us and have taken in travelers before.)

And I could always fly.

That's pretty much in a nutshell where I am right now. Oh yes, I'm also quite tired from all this working. Fortunately, I only have two more days of it before I go on vacation! I may stop by for a few minutes Saturday evening, and after that I'll be away until at least the following Saturday evening.

Cheers!

I wondered where you were gone to, but this explains it.

55 hours of real work, (not sitting behind a desk) is a lot.

Depends on what you are doing behind the desk. When I work 55-60 hours (most weeks), trust me, it is draining.

30 hours a week can be draining. Yeah, it really does depend on what your job demands of you and/or what you give to the job.

Good luck with the bonus and Spain, skylark!

If I were doing office work at the nursing home, 55 hours/week would be mentally but not physically demanding. As it is, only 6 hours of my workload has been spent sitting at a desk shuffling papers. The rest of it... as the cool manager at the store put it, "this job is one constant interruption." The cashiers who work in the front of the store complain about the cold temperature of the store, but I never feel cold because I'm always running here and there, never really catching up. (No one in Produce ever does feel caught up there.)

KC, oh goodness, I was by no means saying that my responsibilities end when I get off work! Sure, being a big sister is in no way comparable to being a dad, but I've got this trip to plan, family obligations to keep up with, church commitments, and friends to consider. So yeah, VB got squeezed out and will still be "squoze" for a bit.

Iiiiiiiiiinteresting... I just received the updated list of visa requirements, and it doesn't mention anything about a criminal background check or certificate of good conduct. The consulate obviously isn't available to answer questions on weekends, but I'll call them on Monday and find out if they do or don't require the check.

Ok, folks! I need to go pack. I'll be back in a week! It probably won't be exactly a week since I'm going to a minor league baseball game upon returning from vacation. It might be the day after, Sunday, when I'm back on the boards.

I have returned. I confirmed with the Consulate that I don't need a background check, and I sent in all the visa paperwork last Monday. I *should* get it back early next week. If I don't get it by Wednesday... They will hear from me on the phone in a slightly panicked tone.

Vacation was awesome! I had an entire week to do whatever I wanted. I got away from computers, telephones (mostly), TV, radio, and most of all--WORK! I played card games, skiied, tubed, swam, and used an awful lot of SPF 45 sunscreen. I TRIED to stay the same shade, but I wasn't about to stay in the cabin all day. People at work were commenting on my tan. Arg. It's kind of funny that though I work hard to insure I won't get skin cancer, I end up with a tan.

And... now I have bangs. I cut myself some bangs on Sunday afternoon. It's annoying sometimes, but I'll get used to it. I'll have to post pics.
