I'm making step-by-step guides in Word 2007, so I'm using numbered lists. It's fine until I get to the double digits, then Word inserts a huge gap between the number and the writing. I can't get rid of it. I've looked in all the options I can think of and it just will not go away. It's like this:

8. Do this.

9. Do this.

10. space Then do this.

Stopping the automatic numbering and typing in my own numbers creates other problems with the look and feel.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the indentation?

I would love to use Open Office or something similar but as it is the work computer I can't.

Change the size of the indent; make it a bit bigger, so that it's past the double digit numbers. You should be able to drag it up at the top of the page.

I think this may be your problem. I moved this marker over when I was on line 10. Before, it was at the 1/2" mark. Now it is at the 1" mark.
