This is just unbelievable.

A woman from DogsDeserveBetter received TWO phone calls about a dog who lay dying for three days. Calls to animal control had yielded no results, so she did what any of us would do and she saved the dog herself. She was arrested and is being charged. Here is the full story.

The pictures were hard enough to see, I couldn't bring myself to watch the videos.

Thank you for posting that, fyvel.

DogsDeserveBetter is a great site and I wish the best for Mrs. Grimes. She did the right thing. I'm glad everything was documented so thoroughly and is getting all the media attention that it is (Inside Edition!).

The frightening thing is that it is so blatantly obvious that she did do the right thing. How do things like this happen? How come the people who left the dog to die aren't in jail? It's all so frustrating. And quite frankly, it's an embarrassment to the justice system.

I'm just glad the somebody had the guts to stand up and do what was right, even if it ended in her being arrested and charged. Sometimes laws need to be broken to do the right thing (especially when breaking the law doesn't hurt anyone, but saves an innocent dog).

Oh, I will also phone. They will get a surprise to get a phone-call from Switzerland. I will also contact our local rag. They like stuff like this. Maybe they will write about it and then I will fax the article to whom it concerns in the States.

Wow that first article.. wow.. I'm glad they published the second one at least! But how can they say they have no evidence? What about the pictures and video? What happened to this dog might not be intentional "abuse", but it certainly is neglect, and that is just as bad.

I'd love to know what rationale the owners have for leaving their dog chained outside in the dirt and WHY it's okay to prosecute someone for freeing a suffering animal. It was a justifiable and morally correct thing to do,I know I would've done the EXACT same thing. To arrest her for criminal mischief and receiving stolen property is despicable. It actually makes me sick.

We should start a group donation from VB for legal funds or something.I called the number provided for the police and got a busy signal several times.Good.I hope their phone is ringing off the hook with calls about their incompetent law officers.

Also, don't forget to support California's S.B. 1578, the anti-tethering bill. If Gov. Schwarzenegger signs it, we'd be the first in the country with a law like this. Of course, as this story suggests, enforcement is a real issue.

Your write-up on it was awesome epski!

And I sure hope that California bill becomes law. Man I wish it'd become a law here in Indiana.

Interesting.

Turns out the dog (Jake) is 19 years old. No dog reaches 19 yo, let alone a German shepherd-black labrador mix, if it's been neglected and abused. That advanced age also pretty much explains the vet's report and why the healthy dog in the background stands in such sharp contrast.

Someone isn't telling the whole truth here.
