I'm 27 and I had my wisdom teeth taken out last october - I'd heard it was bad when you were out of your teens.

Not at all! They gave me some vanilla-scented gas to inhale (feeel soooo goooood....) and gave me night-night drops though an IV.

Next thing I knew, I was feeling the assistant take the heart-monitoring thingies off my chest and was telling me I was all done. I sat in the back room for a while then my hubby drove me home.

I wasn't that swollen (and that's saying something, for a swede with a big head & chubby cheeks!), and I got vicodin for the pain. Not a problem at all.

I went to an oral surgeon. It was spendy (can't remember how much, but I think close to $2000) but my mouth healed well - no dry socket and no pain that couldn't be cured by pills...

good luck, but you won't need it! just go to an oral surgeon like soilman says and it'll be a breeze..

PS - I had one taken out w/local anesthesia & it was ok. but it was almost fully grown in. My other 3 were impacted & I had to "go under" for that. But I didn't have any problems as soilman suggested might occur.

I prefer general anesthesia. I enjoy sleep & didn't feel crappy afterward. Groggy for a little while, but not crappy.

I've had nitrous and maybe they didn't give me enough - but I was fully aware of what they were doing & couldn't relax. Felt loopy but still kept worrying about "what if I start to feel it?!"

I'd rather they just KO me and wake me up when it's all over. Sleep is good

And since my procedure was at 8am, the whole "not eating" thing wasn't a problem... you can't eat for 12 hours - no prob!
