Eating meat again? I haven't had any meat in 2 months, and i'm not planning on eating it ever again. But i was curious, if you unknowingly eat a piece of meat, is it true that it will make you sick? Thanks and sorry if it's a stupid question.

A teacher of mine in high school had a vegetarian daughter who unwittingly ate meat and got an intestinal obstruction and was in the hospital for a bit. I have friends who were vegetarian for years who went back whatever the opposite of cold turkey is (hot chicken?) and had no problems. I think the answer is... maybe.

It might depend on the person and how sensitive their stomach is. I haven't eaten meat in almost 20 yrs and I would <i>assume</i> that it would make me ill but I don't know and would NEVER want to find out.

I can't imagine getting ill from it, maybe a bit nauseous. I know I feel that way when I eat anything fried nowadays.

I know someone who tried red meat after being vegetarian for a while and they got a terrible stomach upset. But their digestive system was sensitive, they had had an illness.

Meat in and of itself, probably not physically, though your aversion to the idea of eating it might cause you to feel sick after you find out. Even before going vegetarian, after having not stepped foot into a fast food restaurant for about 10 years, the one time I did I couldn't even make it through half the "meal" (I have trouble calling something a meal that does not contain actual food) before I started feeling nauseous.

no, when i had slip ups it just made me guilty but not sick<br><br>
i could see some things making you sick though after not eating it for a while, like raw fish in sushi

It depends on the person. Most people can consume small amounts of animal products without problems but some people are sensitive. Large amounts (or any abrupt change, really) are more likely to cause problems.<br><br>
Note: dairy is an exception. Many people who have not consumed dairy for years will not be able to return to milk without problems. They can, however, usually return to cheese without issue.

I definitely assumed it would, for some reason. But maybe not after reading this thread. I just feel like I would be sick if I ate meat, but I don't know if that's just from pure disgust more than anything else or what.

I have accidently eaten meat and it did not go down well. Same with dairy except in very small quantities. But then, that was part of the reason I went veggie in the first place.

I think it would, but not violently ill or anything. Most of it's psychological like someone else stated. The one time I thought I accidentally got the beef ravioli instead of the cheese ravioli, I almost upchucked it right there. (Turned out it was cheese and I was just being a drama queen lol)

I think it depends on the person. I first went veg*n when I was 16, and ate meat again when I was 18. The first time I ate meat again, I was violently ill for three days, and I NEVER digest meat properly again. My Mum's the same way-she very slowly went vegetarian over the course of several months, and once it had been about a month or so with no meat, every time she ate it she would get sick.
