I think it's more that people think skinny veg*ns are skinny because they're veg*an, and I don't think it's as much of a stereotype as it used to be - but I guess it depends where you go/who you ask. No-one would ever say that I was anorexic

I've never had anyone tell me that I'm anorexic or that veg*nism is related to any kind of eating disorder. I've had plenty of people imply that I'm emotional though. I'd say that's a more common stereotype.

I'm an overweight vegan.

I'm not sure why you are so concerned these men see you as anorexic. If they are acquaintances, ignore them. If they are closer to you, try making them a nice veggie meal so they can see how much good stuff there is to eat.

I'm confused too. Do men also see male vegetarians as anorexic? Do omni women ever do this? Why the gender specification?

It appears people are making assumptions based on your physical appearance. Believe me, people make all kinds of assumptions about all kinds of people based on all kinds of different looks. I've certainly been at the receiving end of that.

If that is you in your profile picture, than you are young. This stuff bothered me less and less the older I got. But it took time also.

If you feel you are healthy and feel well, then again, don't worry about it.

It's a common misconception that all veg*ans are underweight and suffer from malnutrition, probably because of another misconception, that we never get any protein in our diet. I remember a Los Angeles Times article from some years ago covering the making of the second Spider-Man movie. The reporter mentioned something about star Tobey Maguire's short stature and suggested that his vegetarian diet stunted his growth. Fortunately the newspaper printed a letter from another reader refuting the idea that a vegetarian diet will stunt somebody's growth.
