Should I be thrilled, upset, or indifferent? I'm not too familiar with either place as they don't exist over here.

I don't know, I didn't really know where it should go. Feel free to move it.

I moved the thread to the Veggie Patch. (for now).

A more extensive article in today's LA Times stated that an undisclosed number of Wild Oats stores will be closed, with some employee layoffs. That does happen with buyouts and mergers, and it does suck. I'm also nervous that the Wild Oats that's literally around the corner and two blocks away from me is going to get closed. It's a rather small store, and it may be considered too small for Whole Foods to want to keep open, but it's REALLY convenient having a HFS so close to home!

So now as far as chain stores go, it's basically just Whole Foods and Trader Joes. I always wanted to visit a Wild Oats I have only local co-ops in my area, the nearest Whole Foods is three hours away, but I don't know if this buy-out is good, bad, or neutral.

There is a Wild Oats here in Portland and there was just a grand opening of the new Whole Foods store last week. I guess now they'll both be whole foods. I haven't been to Whole Foods yet, but I know I liked Wild Oats. Oh well.....

Bridgeport Village, right? I'm pretty sure they'll close the Wild Oats and just have one store.

Our Whole Foods in portland is MUCH, MUCH better than wild oats. The service is a lot better, the produce was always better, and the store layout is much nicer. But that could be regional.

Same here. There are several Whole Foods around here, but the one Wild Oats I went to was not impressive in the least. The hot food/ deli bar sucks, the layout is wierd and they definitely don't have the same selection. The produce is decent, but I go to my local market for produce anyway so it doesn't matter.

I don't feel bad if the local Wild Oats closes down because the Whole Foods in that town is just down the block.

The only Wild Oats I've been to was in Chicago when I was visiting you and other VBers, vggiegirl. I remember really liking it and wishing we had one in the Twin Cities.

Are Kettle chips hard to find in your area? They are everywhere here...even the regular grocery stores carry them.

Whole Foods has kettle chips, of course! And Terra chips and 365 brand chips and Michael's brand and a lot of other brands. Their selection seems to far outweigh that of Wild Oats'.
