Some famous vegan advocate I forget her name stated that the white marks under your fingernails are caused by sugar or something like that does anyone know anything about this?<br><br>
The vegan advoctae was a female actres not sure if that rekindles anyones memory of it.

As far as I know you get those due to a lack of calcium in your diet.

Doctors say those white marks are just tiny scars from an injury, usually when that part of the nail is just beginning to emerge from the skin, and not to worry about them. I used to have a whole bunch of them, but I just looked at my fingers and, none. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

I have this ALL the time and I've always wondered what was causing them. Someone told me it was the lack of zinc.<br>
So which is it? Lack of calcium, lack of zinc or injury? And yep.. I usually have my nails painted too. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

Yeah, I've always known it to be because of an injury to the nails. Never knew there was a word for it though. They only show up on my nails after I smack them into something, which happens to be moderately often. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/tongue3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":p"> Right now all but two or three nails have a little white mark on them.

This is from a zinc deficiency. I have not read or heard that this is from a calcium deficiency but thanks for the info Windigo.

Ive heard zinc, calcium, and injury. On the rare occasion i've had the problem its just on one nail so im guessing injury. bit of nail polish cures it hehe
