Hello everyone, recently when I chopped an onion white liquid oozed out of it. The liquid looked like milk. Is this unsafe? I actually threw the onion out. I've chopped several onions before and this is the first this ever happened.
Are you sure there wasn't something on your cutting board or knife? Makes my think like potato starch, or I think even salt could turn it milky. I grind garlic with salt into a paste with the flat of the knife and it gets kinda milky
That is normal. It's just the juice from the onion. I cook regularly with Vidalia onions, which are sweet, and this is a regular occurrence when they are fresh. No worries!
