My wife and I will be passing through Chicago in about 12 hours. We have always made a point of dropping by the Chicago Diner when we are in town, but I was wondering what other veg*n places you guys could recommend. There is a listing on HappyCow.net for "Veggie Bite", is it any good?

Veggie Bite is good but it's more of a junk food place. It's nothing fancy, kind of like a vegan McDonald's but much slower (at least when I was there).

It's the only veg*n restaurant in Chicago I've tried, but I am definitely in favor of the Soul Vegetarian Restaurant. I ate there within a month of going vegetarian, and decided it wasn't so bad and I could stick with the vegetarian lifestyle after all. Unfortunately, I haven't had food so good since.

First off, you're lucky. Chicago is the best food city in the US, no question.<br><br><br><br>
The first place I go when I'm in Chicago is Soul Vegetarian East. If I actually believed in god, I would say this is the food they would serve in heaven.<br><br><br><br>
The last time I was in Chicago, I got to try Alice & Friends. They have the BEST vegan cheesecake. The rest of the food is great as well, but their vegan cheesecake is amazing.<br><br><br><br>
Chicago Diner is now a lot more vegan friendly than it used to be. I would recommend the Reuben Sandwich. It's great. Plus all their desserts are vegan as well, including some of the best german chocolate cake I've ever had. Whenever I go there, I actually buy an entire cake to take home with me on the plane/in the car.<br><br><br><br>
I would also second the recommendation of Pick Me Up for breakfast. A Chicago staple.<br><br><br><br>
