If you have lost a great deal of weight and have a story to tell about it please share. These stories are inspiring especially to me because I am an overweight person who would love to see great weight loss in my efforts to being a healthier, more active person.

I've lost 78lbs, and still have about 12lbs to go. Is that a big loss? I'm not sure? I watched my portions, went walking every day. I ate more fresh, less processed foods. It's really quite simple and people have made it more complicated then needed.

78lbs is lots! I agree that people have made it complicated but it's just because they're looking for quick fixes.

I've lost about 43 lbs, which is a lot for my frame. I'm like 5' 1 1/2". I was a size 16 and now I'm an 8. I basically cut out all meat, gained a little because I started eating more CHEESE! Then I cut out dairy and the weight started falling off. I did more than that though (although I think cutting out dairy was more than 50% of my success). I started drinking green smoothies and just in general eating a TON more fruits and veggies. I also had to work some on portion control and not snacking out of boredom. I'm not as strict as I was when I was trying to lose the weight, but so far I've been able to maintain easily, even though my diet isn't perfect. I'd like to lose another 10-15. I haven't lost anything since october and I'm just now starting to watch my portions again and all that good stuff. I've lost about a lb in a week. It's not hard to lose like it used to be. All it takes now is a teeny bit of willpower. I used to practically have to starve myself to see results.

These are great successes.

Is there anyone who spends the majority of their working time on their feet and finds it so hard to go for walks? I do. I just don't want to be on my feet when I'm not at work.

I weighed roughly 175 all throughout high school. Finished up college at about 215 in 2004. Due to a variety of reasons that I won't get into I gained a lot of weight over the next few years and at my heaviest was 325. August 2007 I decided enough was enough and actively started trying to lose weight. I measured my calorie intake for a while and then basically cut that number in half. I went from eating 3600 calories a day to 1800. I also started working out 3-5 times a week. By August 2009 I was down to 205. I wasn't at my goal (175) but I was pretty happy with the way things were and started slacking off. By December 2010 I was back to 240. I decided to get back into a routine and have lost 12 pounds so far in the new year. The one thing I have learned from all this is that I kick ass at losing weight but suck at keeping it off. I can do whatever it takes to get it off but maintenance is the hardest part. Developing a healthy lifestyle is not yet something I've fully embraced but I know I'll have to in order to be successful over the long haul.

Congrats to Carley and Shauna_m!
I weighed in at 108.3kg (238lb) at the end of 1999 and over the space of 3 years lost 50.3kg (110lb). I am happy to say that I have kept it off for 8 years.

Maintaining a healthy BMI has not always been easy. I was not veg*n when I lost the weight but I have found the last 18 months as a veg*n much easier and more physcally satisfying than the previous 6 years maintaining.

I have so far only lost 26lb (not a lot compared to many) over about 7 months (I had 1 month off due to injury, two due to busy life)... I was a size 18 (size 16 in American, I think) and am now a size 14 (size 12 y'all). This is the first time in my life I have been active. I am aiming for a further 14lb to my target.

I always avoided exercise, as I have dyspraxia and used to get bullied for that and a scoliosis. Dyspraxia affects muscle tone, coordination, stamina, spatial awareness, things like that... It makes me walk a bit funny and bump in to things.

I was always bigger than my friends... I went through periods of low self-esteem, sometimes I couldn't leave the house. I lived with a very controlling man for six months, who was always telling me I was fat and nobody would ever want me... This was September 2009. In April 2010, I decided to do something about it and joined a gym. I also came to terms with the fact that alcohol was a problem for me and these days I hardly ever really drink, saving my liver and my calorie count.

So for me, it was a combination of being in a nasty friendship, but also making another good friend who inspired me, plus learning to love myself and set new goals, that helped me make a start... After which, it was magazines, websites, a long learning process.

I don't have any pics yet, as moat my recent pics, I am wearing several layers.

From mid-2008 to mid-2010 I lost about 120 lbs.

I did it through diet and exercise.

I became officially NOT overweight in spring 2009, and of that 120 lbs, 100 of it was lost between July 2008 and June 2009.

It's a hard thing to hear that exercise isn't something you can give up after you lose weight, it's something you have to do on a regular basis to keep your weight maintained and of course making sure you eat as much calories as you spend. That's for maintaining anyway. Keep trying! I've had problems with giving up too and gaining back all, if not more weight then I lost. I don't want to keep yo-yoing like I have so as someone who can relate I wish you the best in reaching your goal!

^ Yup, Shauna looks like a different person!

Shauna, did you ever plateau?

You were just a bit lighter than when I started... I'm aiming for around 133 lb short term... But was worried that because I have always been 'big', I could never do it due to genetics...

How long did your weight loss take?

Thanks!!
My story is actually very long and very detailed, as I have battled with weight issues my whole life. The actual weight loss part of it is simple, though. I ate healthy foods in healthy amounts, exercised, drank plenty of water, and just overall tried to live healthily for a sustained period of time.

Before... I was probably a bit bigger than this last April... At my biggest, I was 173lb.

This is me currently... Sorry picture quality is shoddy... I normally don't like cameras too much. I'm currently 139...
