I'm just starting to experiment with smoothies due to this damn liquid diet, and I'm wondering what you like to put in your smoothies and how you make them. Do you like to make a creamy smoothie with some type of plant milk, fruit/veggies and ice, or just frozen fruit? Got a favorite flavor or secret ingredient? I wanna know!

So far, I've been making banana-orange-pineapple-strawberry with orange juice and pienapple juice for the liquid, and frozen strawberries for the slushy part. I add hemp protein powder and today I remembered to put in my flax oil!

Today I made chocolate-PB-banana with one banana, some Chocolate Almond Breeze, a couple spoonfuls of chocolate PB, and a few ice cubes. Yummy!

My favorite:

1 cup plain or vanilla soymilk

1/4 cup pureed pumpkin (cooked or canned)

1/8 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp cinnamon

Blended with a few ice cubes.

It tastes just like pumpkin pie... only good for you! Chocolate peanut butter banana smoothies are also delicious, I must admit.

I really want to get my claws into some hemp or brown rice protein powder for my smoothies, but can't seem to find any around here.

My regular smoothie is unsweetened cranberry juice, a little steviaplus, some unsweetened soy milk, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, fresh spinach and a little hemp oil. I love smoothies in the summertime.

Hope you feel better soon.

I found some cantaloupe 2/$1 so I've been using them this week. 2/3 cantaloupe and 1/3 raspberry, a little bit of vanilla and some ice cubes made a really good smoothie.

Others that we make a lot:

frozen banana + cocoa powder + almond milk

frozen peaches + vanilla + almond milk

banana + pineapple + coconut + rice milk

frozen strawberries + soy yogurt + orange juice

Well, first off you need to keep your freezer stocked with sliced frozen banannas. I will usually buy them and use half for eating and half for freezing. this provides a creamy base for your smoothy without dairy. My daughter's been making them for us just about every morning this week. She's discovered a wonderful ingredient, pecans, which she claims, "Adds some protein." We usually use a peach, a bannana and a little soymilk. I'm not vegan, so organic plain yogurt when I have it...though that is rare and it is definitely not a must. I don't generally use sweeteners, though you can if you need to.

Frozen banannas also make great ice cream. Last year we pureed them with some good dark chocolate I had on hand for some excellent chocolate ice cream.

Thanks, bethanie! I can't imagine why I would need a sweetener when I already have sweet things like bananas and orange juice or chocolate milk in my smoothie. Plus the hemp powder makes it even a smidge sweeter. I'm going to try freezing the bananas!

My favorite smoothie is the one I posted a recipe for on the recipe boards...I think I called it Amazing Omega 3 Blue Velvet smoothie or something like that.

The basic idea is fresh papaya, frozen mango (most of my frozen fruit I buy fresh and then freeze because I prefer that to using ice cubes), a couple of strawberries, a big handful of blueberries, some plain soy milk and a little flax oil.

I don't like bananas but I've found that mango and papaya have a really nice creamy texture when they're pureed.

I too am anti-sweetener in smoothies. Unless that's what you like, of course. But fruit is nature's candy, why does it need to be sweeter? Smoothie King I know uses canned and frozen fruit packed in corn syrup, and adds turbinado AND honey to most of their smoothies. That drives me crazy!

I LOVE smoothies! Eating large, starchy breakfasts with too much protein makes me tired and sluggish all day, so I make a smoothie every morning for breakfast. Yum.

Frozen blueberries, raspberries and bananas plus orange/cranberry juice. I like it with vanilla soymilk as well, but I don't always have it on hand. I don't like to put extra sweeteners in it, since the cranberry juice always makes it nice and tart. Lovely

I don't like to use ice in my smoothies so I make sure to freeze half of my fruit before using it. My favorite is banana, mango & strawberry with a bit of vanilla rice milk, a bit of orange juice and just a squeeze of agave nectar.

I know it sounds super simple but our favorite is frozen strawberries and apple juice. Very simple, but very refreshing on these hot virginia afternoons. If I have fresh mango hanging out I love adding that too.
