And no, this one doesn't count. I'm not talking about amusing random silliness. I'm talking about supposedly serious debates that just don't live up to the words "serious" or "debate". And not your normal political debates, which inevitably end up being pretty inane. I'm talking the really off the wall stuff.

What prompted me to start this is that I just noticed that a particular thread on another forum got another post today. It's a chess discussion site, and someone mentioned in passing that he thought one semi-famous chess player from history was the reincarnation of another semi-famous chess player from history. This ended up getting split to its own thread on that site.

Since one of those historic guys was a Confederate during the American Civil War and the other was a Nazi in Germany even before Hitler came to power, this prompted a debate about which was worse: the Confederacy or the Nazis. Yes, we actually had a "Which was more evil?" conversation, with the original guy who believes in reincarnation trying to convince the rest of us that there were plenty of black people who supported the Confederacy, so slavery must not have been that bad.

The truly scary part is that the thread lasted something like 100 posts.

Come to think of it, I'd say another top candidate for internet weirdness was the recent duck hunter debates here on VB and their site. That was just a strange day.

Anyone got any other interesting "conversations" to tell us about?
