The (vegan) toothpaste I use is flouride free, and it mentions how people get flouride from other sources such as sodas (which is fine if you consume that crap all the time) and the damage too much flouride can do.

Also, I recently read that because bottled/filtered water removes flouride from water (whereas tap water has it) this isn't helping with the state of teeth (especially children's teeth).

Some countries use fluoride in their drinking water. Some salts have fluoride added (for health reasons!!!). Some medications against osteopororsis use fluorides. Toothpaste advertise with fluorides.

Fluorides also are nearly everywhere as pollutants.

Fluorides may cause: dental and skeletal fluorosis, they are neurotoxic, they might inhibit melatonin production, they may cause hypothyroidism, and much more.

It doesn't remove it, it just doesn't add it.

In rural areas, people usually draw water from their own wells. This water isn't fluoridated. To compensate, dentists (in Ontario, anyway) usually give rural kids extra fluoride treatments compared with kids in the city.

As to the lack of fluoride in bottled water, if it's all that kids are drinking, they should maybe notify their dentists and ask if they should have more frequent treatments. On the other hand, if the bottled water is replacing pop, they're probably better off than kids who supplement tap water with sugary drinks.

From what I've heard, the controversy over fluoride arises because adults don't really need it or benefit from it, so we're getting extra chemicals that some people think are harmful in excess.

Hope that helps

Check out these two websites. I'm pretty sceptical about supplementing flouride.

http://www.nofluoride.com/

http://www.mothering.com/10-0-0/html...uride107.shtml
