Not that we need any excuse to spoil our pets
but around here the Holidays are one of those times where I can go out and spend money on the pets without feeling guilty about splurging. Anyone else get their pets any presents? Fess up.

My dogs just had a joint birthday party about three weeks ago and lots of people came and gave them toys and treats, so for Christmas they've all gotten mostly practical gifts. Although they did get a few stuffed animals from goodwill. They each got nice big dog bowls (no more dollar tree crap with the food spilling everywhere when I try to mix in canned food), and cheap comforters for their crates. Skip got a t-shirt that says "bitches love me". Mikey got a special night collar. Starbucks got a new basketball. And they got a second bike leash attachment. The cats got a better cat bed, their favorite treats (aquariyums) and will get a cat tree off ebay after the holidays. My parents and sister's dogs are all getting talking hand puppets from krogers that aren't really dog toys, but which my own dogs love more than their real toys.

Aww, ss skylark.

I failed to mention the best gift my dogs got for Christmas was getting some new playmates for a few days. On Christmas Eve the shelter tried something called "Operation Empty Shelter" and had volunteers take home some of the shelter dogs home for a few days so that they wouldn't have to spend Christmas in a kennel. (And we did succeed in getting the shelter empty except for a few dogs who were sick and had to stay behind). But my own dogs were thrilled because that meant they got a new playmate for Christmas. I took home two dogs Libby and Nate. Libby preferred the company of Starbucks and Perry who are both calmer, while Nate preferred the company of Skip and Mikey my two friendly nutcases. Then when I brought Libby and Nate back to the shelter I brought another dog home for just a few hours--Noel, who everyone is convinced must be Skip's sister because they have the same body type and build (which Skip is a very unique looking dog) and sure enough Skip and Noel hit it off wonderfully and after just an hour and a half at my house they were both exhausted. So that was my dog's favorite present out of all the stuff they got, just getting to make some new friends.
