What To Do After a Binge?

6899 Views 13 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  megbot
I just binged.

It's not the first time.

I was anxious, bored, and just wanted to eat. A LOT!!

So what do I do? What untill tomorrow and resume eating?

Or munch on veggies to keep my metabolism going?

I know to drink a lot of water, but what should I do so I don't get constipated?

Your advice is appreciated.

I'd go for a long walk.

And next time I felt like binging because I was bored or anxious... I'd go for a long walk.

What I do in this situation is just not be too hard on myself and go about my regular life. If you're hungry at all the rest of the day, eat something. If not, wait until you are hungry. The most important thing here is don't be hard on yourself.

I would just wait and eat when I was hungry, if you keep eating veggies or not you will just end up feeling sick. Don't get too down about it, if you needed it then you needed it.
Don't beat yourself up. Eat normally, get a little exericise, and move on. Indulgence is normal and okay on occassion.

I so agree with the lovely people who said eat when you're hungry.

definitely relax.

and there's a few things you can do that aren't too difficult; things to make your body feel better. sometimes binges are hard on the body because of big amounts of sugar or carbs or whatever.

if you eat eggs (dunno if your vegan) or mock meat..or anything high protein for breakfast tmrow, the protein helps balance out an excessiveness of carbs.

drink a lot of water. tea if you like it, decaf if its late. fruit and tea help me feel "cleansed" after binging or indulging excessively.
What to do after a binge... try not to let it upset you, this will make you feel even more anxious. Do not go fasting or restricting, this will only set you up for a new binge if you happen to be prone to binging... What others have said already before me, eat when hungry, when you get hungry next, whenever that may be, an hour or two, tomorrow morning... have something.

Right now, get your mind off of this, do something you like doing or that needs to be done. Get some light exercise, go outside, talk to a friend, whatever makes you feel good.

Do not feel guilty.

If you have emotional eating issues, you might also want to try and find out for yourself what makes you eat, what bothers you, I know you said anxious and bored, but perhaps you are covering some problems with emotional eating.

Also try not to have a too monotonous diet, it is important to get variety to satisfy both your palate and nutritional needs.

Well...I like to excercise after I feel like I binged.

I've been dealing with purging for about 3 years now, but i'm trying not to do that as much anymore, and just eat healthy and enough and excercise enough, ya know?

So, for me, after I feel like I binged, i'll go running, i'll making myself go a long time until I feel good.

I think that would be considered "exercise bulimia". Either way, whether you purge or run for miles you're consciously attempting to get rid of calories you consumed.

You should work out to enjoy it and be healthy. Not as a 'punishment' for eating food that your body needs.

For people with binging behaviour problems it is recommended that you do light exercise regularly. Something like going for a walk, intense exercise is not encouraged in the beginning as it can lead to the exercise bullimia referred to above.

If you feel like you have binged, go for a walk and don't stress about it. Tomorrow is always a new day. If you feel like binging again, go for a walk. Gentle exercise releases all sorts of hormones in your body that encourage positive thinking and make you feel happy. So its a win win situation - remove yourself from the food temptation while doing something positive at the same time.
I would try to transition into something pleasurable and relaxing that doesn't involve food, like a bubble bath.

agreed! Try to do something that makes you feel pretty. Bubble bath, mud mask, pretty candle, dancing, if you have a loved one, tell them you feel bloated and fat and stuffed and typically they can shower you in love and make you feel better.

And next time you're hungry try to eat extra healthy! I just had a buttload of chocolate I know I shouldn't have had, but when I get home I'm intentionally having a portabella mushroom and brown rice so that I remember how I should eat. That and I'm hungry
Accidents happen, the important thing to remember is you're still awesome.
