Next school year I am leaving junior high and going to high school. However, there is an issue with what school I am supposed to go to. I was supposed to go to a really difficult and tough school made only for honor students. However, unfortunatly (yet thankfully) my marks fell below the level that the difficult school admits. So I now have the choice between two schools: a high-quality school with a program called PSDL (which stands personalized self-directed learning) or a crappy mediocore school that has the traditional curriculum. My parents are against the PSDL program (they would not even explain to me why they are against it) and want me to go to the crappy ghetto school. I tried to explain to them that the reasons I want to go to the school with the PSDL program, but they won't listen. Talking about it doesn't seem to work due to their infinite stubborness, so what do I do now? Should I talk to the councillor in my current school so he could perhaps set my parents straight? I have to get this resolved soon because the registration forms have to be in next week.

Have the councillor talk to your parents. Meanwhile, try to determine why they would rather your resume have you graduating from a second class high school instead of one with a good reputation. After all, it will make a difference in how employers look at you.

Psssttt...life2k, this is the teen forum!

Be calm and ask your parents if they gave you reasons to avoid the school with the better program you will be more into the other school. Have you tried to talk to them about it being the school that will give you the better education? Can you talk to some kind of guidance counselor at your school? They could help pick the best school for you, then possibly write to or call your parents about it? I wish you the best, picking the right Highschool can be very important. You need to go to a school that will give you sucess and make you look the best to future colleges.

My parents finally gave in to allowing me into the school that I want to go to,and not the crappy one, but under the condition that my marks stay at 80% or above. They still do not want me in the PSDL program. They said that "they'll think about it". The problem is that the PDSL program is the one I think I will do the best in, and me not being PDSL is going to make the condition that I stay at 80% more difficult. I think I may have to show them the pamphlet about the school, since that seem to be mis-informed about it.

Good luck, why do they not want you in that program? Do they think it will be to hard for you? I'm confused why they wouldnt want you to go to that school.

They think it's for losers for some weird reason I cannot determine no matter how many times I ask them. The best response I got so far is "just because". After pestering them I seem to have got my dad on my side my my mom still remains stubborn. Nonetheless, things look hopeful, since my dad is usually good at my mom agree with him.
