Hi-this is my first post here.

I enjoy making web sites, and want to make an animal liberation/vegan site. However, I want to make a site that is original and important in some way-not something that's been done many times before (like a site outlining the basic reasons for being vegan, or a vegan news site.) So, I thought it would be a good idea to ask you people if you have noticed any gaps in the vegan website world that you think I could/should fill.

I appreciate any help you can offer.

First of all... Welcome VB newbie!!

Brachypelma.... This is a very VERY good question & line of enquiry... to which I say altho I've never had my own website (as yet)... I do rather desperately want to try building one, and as to what I would/or may put on one for layout and content etc, is a cool question to highlight....

I have long been keen to assess (at least) *conceptualizing basic designs*....readily implemented preferably heh! so... (although

admittedly for me not in very much depth/detail yet as I am still as novice at web-building)... BUT still anytime now I would like to give it a go, even if its just a geocities website!!...

Anyway, best of luck and thanks for your question and desire to not be the same as everybody else's vegan site/s.....I know exactly what you mean by that...

Anyhoo, I will try later to think of some actual suggestions okay!!

...Keep the vegan faith and express away your ideas, in reply to our ideas...etc.. (that is: ours AND your own ideas combined if that sounds good?)...

Thanks for the encouragement. It sounds like you might be interested in a collaborative effort. If so, I would prefer to get a domain name, and not a geocities site. I currently have a site at my own domain www.veggiedirectory.com . It's going to be a "click-to-donate" site, sort of like thehungersite.com, except the proceeds are going to FARM (farm animal reform movement, www.farmusa.org)

The site just went up about two days ago, and I don't have any sponsors...yet, though I've contacted about 50 companies so far and two companies (veganessentials.com and Simple Treats, a vegan cookie company) have stated their interest in helping me out-hopefully they'll pull through and sponsor my site. A click-to-donate site without sponsors is a pretty sad sight.

Well, not necessarily collaborative, (depends, its entirely your

preorogative I do think!..whether you want participation or not)

being that you are the initiator...Whats the long term plan?? Will

it be very big??

Whats your dream website that is realistic enough to carry out??

btw:

I edited my above post again *slightly*..but the essence of what I said is as before, that although enthusiastic enough, I've no where near the knowledge you may need technically, but I'm open to learning for sure and maybe doing one or two things to help where I'm able, I guess, but anyway we'll just see how it all pans out as this thread unfolds.. hopefully with more knowlegable

people than I answering your queries ..

Now, whether be it ""Sponsored"" or ""Click-to Donate""... Are these not principally the same thing??? Depends who is giving or letting you their webspace I suppose as to how agreements are worked out, I guess???

There's so many other sites at this point, that I can't think of anything I haven't already seen. Have you been to all the other sites and noticed anything you wish you were missing in your life?

My ideal site would be veganessentials rolled into vegweb, rolled into veggieboards. One-stop veganity.

I think that what we vegetarians need is not a new site, there are tons, what we need is a way for people, both veggies and omnis, to FIND these sites. Omnis aren't going to type www.eggscam.com into their browser or www.whyvegan.com arbitrarily. We need a means of getting them to these sites and learning about them. Perhaps your site could be like an "internet vegetarian advertisement site" where you get donations and pay webmasters at normal sites like game sites or sports sites or whatever and put banners on their sites that show pictures of something relatively cruel being done to an animal and then says "Click here to find out how you can help" and then when they click you take them to www.whyvegan.org or something.

Yeah, I'm getting these.

Right now, I'm kind of preoccupied with my current website, so making second won't be a reality for a while.

However, I'm going off to college this fall, and thinking of starting an Animal Liberation activist group there. I stayed there overnight a while ago and was very underwhelmed at the amount of vegan food there. There's a huge potential for tabling, demonstrations, protests, poster placement, changing the cafeteria to be more vegan-friendly, etc. etc. One of the things I could do is make a website for that group if and when it is formed.

At any rate, thanks for all the suggestions so far. I basically agree with those who are saying that there really is no need for any new websites. I was just asking here in case any people here who didn't know how to make a site but had a great idea for one wanted to share their ideas with me.

On the subject of advertising vegan sites on "normal" sites, I really don't know why Vegan Outreach, PETA, The Humane Society, etc. don't do this. They really need to reach out to the average omnivore, and not stay stuck in their private internet circles anymore.
