I know this question sounds a little odd, but I am just wondering how the rest of you see food. Do you have a healthy relationship with it? I hate to admit this but I kinda have a love - hate relationship with food.

You see, I used to be anorexic and definitely still see myself as fat every now and then though people tell me otherwise. I have learned to like certain foods now ( I am more inclined to the healthy type, no greasy stuff on my plate please! ) but every so often, I feel terribly guilty about eating esp. if I think I have had too much or when I am having a 'fat day'. And sometimes I just hate eating, other times I kinda enjoy it. I don't think I am fully recovered; in fact I am still on some medication and sometimes I wish it would all be over but I know that it will always be a part of me. It's been about 6 years now since I was diagnosed and treated but I still obsess about being fat.

It's definetely a love relationship. I make a big stink about my mealtimes, too. Set the table, the lighting, etc. I look at food as a nourishing treasure.

I have a neutral relationship with food. I eat when I'm hungry. I have cravings very rarely, but when I do, they are fierce. Last craving I had was for falafel and I've now eaten falafel 3 times in the last week.

Well, i put a lot of thought into what i'm eating. I'm the only vegan in my house so i have to plan vegan meals that everyone will enjoy for dinner. So far most of our vegan meals are pretty simple ..veggie spaghetti with salad and steamed brocolli, or beans and rice with stir-fried kale, etc., nothing gourmet by any means. I would like to start cooking more gourmet vegan stuff.

i too have a love-hate relationship with food. a quite unhealthy relationship. i hate it but i think about it all the time. it drives me crazy sometimes. i wish i could just not care about food. i wish i was like a car and could just get fueled up every now and then and not have to think about eating. it's such a freakin pain.

I think I have a fairly healthy relationship with food; I enjoy food. My weight is pretty stable, usually around 180 pounds which is a good weight for my size, so I don't think I either overeat or undereat. Sometimes I stuff myself and sometimes I skip meals but overall I do pretty well.

Weird. I thought everyone loved food unless they were sick with a stomach virus and nauseous. I love food. Most of my day is spent thinking about what kind of plant matter can I find to devour next, and trying to make sure I can get to it before it is too late.

Unfortunately my stomach still hurts after I eat any substantial quantity, so I pretty much just have to just dream.

Unlike sex relationships, for which there are solitary substitutes, there are no substitutes for food relationship. [if you] don't get sex -- you won't die. [If you] don't get food -- you will die.

I love food.

Sometimes a little too much.

I am currently in the process of trying to learn how to love healthier alternatives to the snack foods that I like to eat. The switchover is going realitivly well. In fact, somedays it feels like I am eating more (of the healthier stuff than the junk) which I think is a great thing because I love food!

Jacfong~You described my "food relationship" perfectly. I feel exactly the way you do.

I LOVE food. I love really healthy...good food, and I make a big stink about mealtimes too. I love expirimenting with new foods and food from other cultures.

Yea, okay, so sometimes I love it a little too much. But I only allow myself to eat the really good stuff these days, so I no longer suffer the guilt of eating a three pack of hostess cupcakes in the car at midnight.

To me these days, eating is a joyous event!

It used to be a pure hate thing with me. I hated food, I hated to eat, I hated the comments that I heard while I was eating, I hated the starving (when I was anorexic), I hated the guilt and pain I was causing, I hated trying to get healthy again afterwards, and I hated that I did this to myself in the first place. It was all hate. Hate, hate, hate!

Then I had to realize that even though there were reasons behind the hate, that didn't excuse the fact that I was in a destructive mode. I also had to see that if I wanted out of that "hate mode", I had to make some radical changes and do some severe rearrangings within myself. I also had to come to peace about a lot of things that affected me in past and about how that affected my relationship with food.

Now, I'm learning to love food. Healthy food, that is. The beautiful bounty grown from the ground with goodness that was meant for me. I'm enamoured with the vibrant colors and the aromatic smells of my veggies, now. I love the way it feels when I handle it, I love what it does when I cook it and I love the way it feels when I eat it. I love that "healthy full" feeling and I love how veggies, fruit and grains work together for my health. I love how my nails look and I love how my hair is growing fast and looking nicer than ever. When I eat, I don't feel guilty anymore. I feel beautiful and pretty. I love hearing things that other people have used in their cooking and I love reading about a new ingredient or a new recipe.
