A pita and a gyro? I saw some gyros in the grocery store pita section and they looked like plain old white-bread pitas to me. I don't see any difference so why do they have a different name?

LadyFaile is right. You roll gyro bread and stuff pita bread. Traditionally, a gyro is a lamb meat "sandwich", but the bread can be used in other ways, too.

wierd that they have gyro salads at a couple of places i go to, no bread is on it either. they also have an extra gyro option for the sandwiches as well as a side of gyro.<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/huh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""><br><br>
anyway i heart dolmas (sp) and wonder if anyone has a recipe. my friend from turkey made em once but doesnt want to show me b/c it is time consuming.

I think I bought the gyros once thinking they were pitas and they still have a pocket. What's the point of that if you're supposed to just roll them up?
