What do you think of processed vegan foods?

Are you a fan of them? From a health standpoint, is it better to eat organic chicken breast or processed soy vital gluten isolate riblets?

For me at least, I don't think eating any meat is healthy for you, whether it's organic or not.

As to processed vegan foods, I think it's a really bad idea to rely heavily on them, since the less processed food is, the better. I don't see anything wrong with indulging occasionally, though.

Any meat - dairy in unhealthy. Basically because of the acidic properties that the meat and dairy have.

I prefer organic than processed, as living foods have tons of vitamins! However, I do not think it will be a problem to eat processed vegan food. (Anyway, take a look over the nutrition facts and the ingredients, to double check is 100% vegan and that it does not have trans fat -never seen a vegan item with trans, thought)
Better for my health, or for the chicken's?

For my health, a win by a nose to the chicken breast.

For the chicken's, a landslide win to the riblets.

The chicken's view wins in balance. Riblets are better for health.
Tofutti stuff is chock-full of trans fat. Dammit.
I have three packages of Tofurkey deli slices in the fridge right now!

I think the following about them:

That is all.

I bought some Tofurkey deli slices too... AND some tofurkey sausage. The tomato basil kind. Good in soup!
I'm happy with each new vegan processed food that is available (and I wish we had half of the products that there are in Europe\\US). I don't eat many of those but I do keep some in the fridge for when I don't have time to cook. It shouldn't be the base to a vegan menu, but I don't think we should avoid it completely. Also, it makes veganism easier, especially for new vegans! I can tell people they won't have to change their meals completely, just replace some foods with others. I think it makes the transition easier and more accessible to many people.
I think both aren't amazing for your health, you certainly do not need both of them to be a very healthy person.

Yes, on the other hand, I think that is definitely true.
One needs to define 'processed'. A loaf of homemade bread can be defined as 'processed' as wheat is ground into flour and then made into dough and baked. Quite a bit of processing.

Soy protein (TVP) is soy beans defatted and put through a special process that applies pressure and heat to produce 'beef chunks' which are packed full of protein with almost no fat and doesn't require preservatives or additives. Which is healthier? Which is more processed?

That's probably why it tastes good.

Not all of the products are. I was at the HFS the other day looking for soy cream cheese. There were 2-3 options, one of which was trans-fat free. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet it's excellent. I don't think the Cuties have it either.

This is what I got: http://www.tofutti.com/btcc-nonhyd.shtml

They have sour cream too with not trans fat: http://www.tofutti.com/ss-hydro.shtml

I guess the real question is whether or not your local stores carry it. That's usually my problem.

I buy both of those. The cream cheese is a little waxy, but tastes pretty good. The sour cream tastes a little heavy of soy, but that's understandable.

As far as processed vegan foods in general, I'd wager that a vegan diet utilizing a reasonable amount of processed vegan foods is still healthier than a typical omnivore diet. While you don't require these things to live or be vegan, they sure make things easy sometimes!
I tried the cream cheese and it was creepy... almost TOO much like dairy cream cheese.

I think it's all about moderation. If you're living off sodium filled frozen meals, you're going to die within a month.

That's probably a bit of an exaggeration. I mean look at the number of omnis who live on high sodium frozen meals and boxed processed stuff like Hamburger Helper. Or the number of school aged children who eat an overabundance of Chef Boyardee, Lunchables, Kraft Mac N Cheese, fast food and the aforementioned frozen meals.

I think it takes considerably longer to die from excessive sodium intake from processed foods than one month. If it didn't there'd be a lot less people running around (at least here in the Deep South).
Yep, it was a joke

They're definately not healthy, but they won't kill you in a month. Maybe 2 months...

I believe the exact amount of time is 2.3567 months.

Unless you add the occasional non-processed meal. That can significantly alter the timing.

Truth? I love the highly processed vegan junk food. Let's face it: I live alone. My boyfriend is an omni. Cooking a delicious homemade vegan meal ain't happening every night.
I also am a fan of tofurkey sausages and slices. And the ground soy stuff is really good to feed to omnis in tacos - I've encountered a couple of people who like it better.
