I'm just wondering if anyone can really refute this.

This is a pretty damn objective scientific study on the myth's of vegetarianism.

Can anyone show me one PRO-vegetarian paper that has as many references? Is almost purely scientific? And isn't sponsored by an already pro-vegetarian faction?

And please, read this in its entirety before commenting. It's common for many proponents of something to make judgment against something before even reading it or trying to understand it.

Presumably since you're here, you're a vegetarian. So what are your thoughts on it?

Eating animal flesh causes violent, aggressive behaviour in humans.

Its an interesting sampling of evidence.

Note how he claims that B12 is best obtained by eating animal products, not that animals are the source of B12. He also points out that plants aren't the source of B12, but he doesn't come out and say that animals are also not the source of B12.

Also, he talks about the efficiency of vitamin A being synthesized by using a sweet potato as an example. After processing, a sweet potato supplies 4000 units of vitamin A. Assuming that he's talking international units, that's 1200 micrograms - more than the recommended daily amount for men. But he doesn't mention that.

These may be honest mistakes, and perhaps he didn't realize that some people could read these statements and think that they imply something else.

He also talks about the consumption of saturated fats in the diet, and uses butter to prove that the consumption of saturated fats have fallen. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but I do know that there are more sources of saturated fats than butter. This is a logical fallacy. (One of several in the writing, btw!)

Some of the points he makes in the article are true. And there are a lot of veg*n misconceptions about the healthiness of an omni diet. So he's also picking the low-hanging fruit to attack.

One could write a pro-veg*n article (with soures) using the same tactics -- use samples of unhealthy omni diets, attack the stupid preconceptions that some omnis have, and write misleading statements.

Just my $.02

Has this article been peer-reviewed? I ask because I'm uncertain if it is, and I do not take articles seriously otherwise.

I do find it rather silly that the author thinks that "water would be drunk anyway" by the cattle if they weren't being raised for slaughter. Obviously he has no concept of supply and demand.

PS: Have you noticed that some of his references seem to be decidedly anti-veg*n? References 2, 4, 5 (these are all the same) come from a paper called "The Vegan Ecological Wasteland". This is published in the "Journal of the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation", a joural that provides at least 8 other references. The PPNF believes that traditional diets should be the guide to healthy living (btw, the author of this article also writes for them!).

Btw, is the author the same "Stephen Byrnes" as mentioned in this article? If so, the State of Hawaii closed down his correspondence course. This Stephen Byrnes also died two years ago of a stroke when he was 40. I believe that this is probably the same Byrnes as the article's author, based on several things the two have in common.

That article is wrong for so many reasons that I don't feel like correcting all of them because it would take me forever. Here's just a few reasons why it is ridiculous. 1) She had no fat in her diet! She needed to eat more nuts and avocados, not animal fats. Her problems were not because she need to eat animals, but because she did not consume enough healthy vegan fats. 2) Supplemented vitamin A is toxic. The natural vitamin A found in vegetables is healthy and required, but the isolated vitamin A in supplements is dangerous. 3) Vegetarianism should not be associated with a low-fat diet. Being a vegetarian does not mean you are eating a diet low in fat. 4) Omega-3 fatty acids are found in walnuts, flax seeds, and fish. Eat these and you will be covered. Don't want to eat the fish because of mercury and pcb's? Take a clean fish oil. If you are a vegan, just take a top quality DHA supplement to ensure you get those healthy fats. Not going to go on here because I am too tired, but don't believe anything this guy is saying people...
