I know it's dumb, but what exactly are eggs?<br><br><br><br>
Some people have told me they are baby chickens... now i know that's not true? But then how come chicks hatch from eggs?<br><br><br><br>
I know i sound stupid, but genuine question.<br><br><br><br>

exactly what they sound like...eggs. They are the female's contribution to the DNA needed to make a baby chicken. An ovum. When they are unfertilised, that is, which most store-bought eggs will be.<br><br><br><br>
After fertilisation, well, it depends how far along they are, but foetus/embryo, etc. It's rare, but there have been some cases of free range eggs either containing a dead chick when opened, or being able to hatch if incubated (I'm thinking specifically now of that kid who recently incubated eggs from Waitrose).

Thanks people :) That's helpful.. had a few people telling me different things lately, someone said eggs aren't laid unless they've been fertilized... i'm easily confused LOL.<br><br><br><br>
