Oh dear. I have some Wellness canned cat food. *goes to check dates*

*sigh* Well, I have one stamped 15Feb 13 and one stamped 18Jun 13, so I have to return the second one. The first one is okay, right?

I have to find the receipt. I don't know if PETCO will take them back without one.

But thanks for posting this. My kitties are NOT getting this canned food.

Can anyone suggest an alternative brand? Natural, no-grain, high protein canned is the goal. I'm thinking maybe EVO? But anything similar, and preferably cheaper would be great.

Taste of the Wild is high quality, yet a little cheaper. Blue Buffalo and Natural Balance also make some grain free cat foods.

I have been buying the dry dogfood from Wellness for awhile now and I'm unsure if I should switch brands now.

at least it's not because of some toxic contamination of some kind, they're voluntarily recalling them because they may not have enough thiamine so a cat eating only those foods from that lot might end up deficient.
so if you've already given some of it to your cat it is not one of those emergency situations. whew.
i switched to a prescription food a while back but we still have some storebought stuff kicking around and wellness was one of the brands we often bought so i'll have to check. i keep meaning to donate it all to a local rescue, i wouldn't want to donate recalled food

Luckily when I checked the dates of the cans I had bought, I was in the clear. Still contemplating switching since they have been bought out by a bigger company which typically means the quality of the product suffers (imo), but my cats do really like the food, so I'm still unsure. Grrr.

Now that I think about it, if I supplement the canned food with dry food, which I do anyway, should there really be a problem? I know some people will feed their cats one brand and one type of food (canned or dry) exclusively, but I don't do that. I give my cat a mix of dry and canned (in separate bowls) and different brands. It seems a little silly to me to try for a refund for just one can. It's not like I bought a whole case of it.
