How many new veggie folks have noticed a drop in weight since changing your eating habits? How much have you lost? What exactly are you eating? (milk/eggs/cheese etc)

I was LO veg for 2.5 months, and now vegan for a month. Though i haven't lost weight, i've lost fat and gained muscle mass without trying.

I initially gained weight when I went vegan, but I also started eating lots and lots of decadent dessert, and switched my bc pill at that time too. I have lost the weight I gained by focusing on eating nutrient-dense foods and a bit of dessert, instead of a lot of dessert, and by exercising 20-30 minutes a day, 5-6 times a week.

My diet is vegan- no animal products at all- and consists of mostly whole grains (wheat, quinoa, spelt, brown rice, rice pastas, kamut, millet, etc.), vegetables (particularly kale, bell peppers, zucchinni, broccoli, spinach, swiss chard, potatoes, carrots, tomato, peas, corn, sprouts, onions, wheatgrass juice etc.), fruits (banana, dried and non-dried apple, strawberry, raspberry, juices, mango, kiwi, melon etc.), tofu, tempeh, seitan, beans, nuts (walnuts, pecans, peanuts, almonds, pine nuts), nut butters, and healthy oils (flax, canola, olive).

Just switching to a vegetarian diet shouldn't make you lose weight because you should be consuming the same amount of calories regardless of whether or not you're eating meat.

I was really carb dependent at first, and I probably gained a good 15 lbs. over 6 months. But lately I've been upping my fresh food intake to maybe 75percent and it's coming off w/o a whole lot of effort. I also am not as hungry as much.

Calories are calories. In order to lose weight, you need to burn off more calories than you are taking in. If you were taking in 2000 calories a day as an omni and then you switched to veg and were taking in 2000 calories a day, its still 2000 calories. Calorie DENSITY and Nutritional VALUE varies from food to food, maybe that's what you're thinking of.

I lost weight without really trying when I became a vegetarian, but this was mostly because I was no longer eating as many really heavy foods.

When I cut out dairy, I lost even more weight. Cheese is really calorie dense.

Then, stupidly, I started eating dairy again. Weight crept back up.

As of yesterday, no more dairy. Hopefully- I will lose again (And keep it off!)

I lost a stone after turning veggie, then another stone after turning vegan. This all happened within the space of about 6 months. I am very concious about what I eat though. I dont consume a huge amount of fatty foods. That should be taken into consideration aswell as the number of calories. Cheese, for example, is usually very high in fat content. Since cutting it out of my diet, and I did used to eat a LOT of cheese, the weight seems to have dropped off - without having to starve myself too!!!

I'm vegan, and I lost weight both when I made the switch to vegetarianism and then veganism.

Since I've turned vegan I've lost about 70-75 lbs. I have also learned how to eat healthy and have fun exercising so there are lots of factors.

When I became veggie last year, I dropped 40 lbs. But I also dropped all fast food, fried food, unhealthy things, and on my way to vegan, fatty ice cream and other dairy products. So I basically changed the whole way I looked at food. I was overweight since I was young, so I need the weight loss. I couldn't be more happy and health than I am today!

Oh, and caring more about exercise and being outdoors helps too!

I personally haven't noticed a big weight loss, but it has only been 3 weeks since I gave up animal products. I have noticed a difference in how I am carrying my weight. I feel like I'm getting firmer and my once beer belly is now starting to go away, again like aotto08 a lot of whats helping is not eating as much crap food
