I'm trying to incorporate some more healthy habits into my life. I got this idea of doing weekly challenges for myself, and thought it would be a heck of a lot easier if I had others to join me! So here's the deal:

The challenge for this week is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, every day (about 64 oz). We start tomorrow -- Sunday, April 20, and finish on Saturday, April 26. Anyone who wants to join me, post below. You should feel free to post daily results, or simply post it all at once at the end of the week.

So, here we go! Good luck! Hope there's some buddies out there for me!!!

One of the best thing about Hawaii is that our water taste like WATER, not swimming pool. I mean tap water, not the sea water

i'm not trying to ruin the whole thread or anything, but i remember that there were some news articles recently about how the whole '8 glasses of water a day' is a myth really. just thought i'd bring it to everyone's attention since the thread seems to be about improving health.

http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2003/03/14..._glasses030314

http://www.cnn.com/2002/HEALTH/diet....en.water.otsc/

I thought I remembered reading something that suggested that people are most dehydrated when they wake up. Which makes some sense. If you were really hydrated when you went to sleep, you'd either wet the bed or be getting up and running to the bathroom all night.

So, under this theory, you should be drinking a lot of water in the morning, to rehydrate yourself from the previous night.

Water consumption would also have an effect on constipation vs. bowel movements. The more water you drink, the easier it should be to have a bowel movement.

I'm in. This is a great idea. I find I drink more later if it's slightly colder than room temperature rather than being really cold and if there's a slice of lemon or lime in it! I also use a really nice glass.

I'm in, although I think I do this already anyway! I was just curious... if you are peeing a lot, does that mean you are drinking an unnecessary amount of water?

I mean, if you it is coming through clear like 10 minutes after you drink, doesn't that mean your body doesn't need it? I have noticed that when I drink a lot of water while working out I rarely have to pee right away but if I sit around at home drinking water/tea I spend my life in the bathroom. My theory makes sense to me but a few friends disagreed....

Spa_Girl- - funny you should start this tread, as "spa" comes from latin- "sanum per aquam" (-there are other interpretations-) - "health through water". (I stumbled over this in a magazine the other day....)

Ah well. What a geek I am *grin*

LOL -- very cool, Azalea!

How's everyone doing today? I've gotten in about 6 already. I'm definitely going to make 8. Maybe more.

And in response to Stonecrest's post, I have read a similar article recently, but to be honest, I just feel better when I drink a lot of water. Maybe it's a mental thing? I just don't think there are many (doctors and otherwise) who would argue that water is healthy and especially necessary for our neighborhood hamsters who sweat it out a lot. (I need to do more of that!) Anyways...

Onward! Hope everyone had a water-ful day! (And a nearby bathroom!)

oh did i ever...at least 9 cups, i'm sure. it's harder during the week with school and all, however. our school has only one functioning, yet very dirty and crowded bathroom for 1000 girls or so...the others have all been shut down because all people did was smoke in them. i guess i'll just have to chug it after school.
