Oh no! Liz is making another recommendation thread!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I need a new web host. My plunderbunny.net ran out and my current host decided to not bother replying to my emails so I could renew it. Now the site isnt working by IP address either. So im cutting my losses and getting a new one.

I basically want something where I can do SQL databases, upload PHP, use a FTP client (rather than an awful browser one), have an email address, have subdomains, and not feel limited when it comes to space and bandwith (500mb/10gb is enough for me). I havent looked for a host in like 6 years as my one USED to be good, but seem to remember that some didnt allow all of those features. Is it standard these days? Should be! why pay for space if you have no flexibility o_O may as well use geocities. Oh and use of a control panel is ESSENTIAL. I had a friend who had to email her host every time she wanted to do something, how bizarre. Im used to Cpanel so that would be a plus.

Who do the site owners here use? I dont mind what country its based in, as long as they arent too expensive and actually reply to my emails.

Are you looking for a dedicated server? I don't really have a website of my own, but I found this company while researching the other day:
http://www.kimsufi.co.uk/

Another option, if you don't need a dedicated server:
If you're willing to switch to UKFSN as your ISP:
http://www.ukfsn.org/home/included.html
UKFSN also has professional hosting services:
http://www.ukfsn.org/business/hosting/

If you're interested in a green host, I would recommend http://www.canvasdreams.com/
They aren't overselling, which many hosts are guilty of, and they've been around for a long time...

It's not the cheapest host around, but the problem with many cheap hosts are that they oversell their
resources in order to attract customers. Often this strategy backfire, and they go out of business.
(Have you heard about fly-by-hosts?) On the other hand, the big behemoth hosts often have a reputation of bad customer service...
