AAAAAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHHH! What have we done?! My husband and I watched Earthlings tonight, it was so awful to watch, it just made us feel like we had to do something. So at the end when the "email this link" page popped up we sent it to my parents as well as his parents. Then we realized that Earthlings is a really long one to watch so we sent "Meet your Meet" too.

I'm normally kind of shy and totally non-confrontational, I'm just thinking they are all going to hate us now! Oh well. Small price to pay compared to the price that millions of animals pay everyday. Some of those images in Earthlings are going to haunt me for the rest of my life, I just can't get them out of my head.

Wish me luck! I already have plans to see my mom this week...

Good luck. That reminds me that I downloaded Earthlings onto my mother's computer, several weeks ago, and told her to watch it. But I forgot to ask if she ever did or not. Probably not. She's moderately receptive to vegetarianism, at least agrees with it on principle but not in practice.

Some of those movies are pretty powerful.

Well, if they come at it offensively, you can always say you just wanted to better explain WHY you are vegan, and the video would explain it more clearly than you could.

GOOD ONE! I shall use that one also. I think I should email it to some of the kids in my food classes. "Why don't you eat chicken?" Is the question for today. I explained to them what I learned in the "45 days:life of a broiler chicken" video. One guy stopped eating his chicken for a few moments.

Hey, I made veggie stir fry for a vegetarian option for class today. They had their choice.

ouch. I see how that could turn into a hostile situation, but it could also turn the other way! Good luck

My husband wrote a simple message in the body of the email like "here's a link to the video that made me become a vegetarian, just in case you're interested." Not word for word but something to that effect. Hopefully casual enough not to be too confrontational.

The one part that worries me is the first 5 minutes or so of Earthlings, where they compare the animal industry with the Holocaust, slavery, etc. Personally I understand the parallel, but I think that could be offensive to people or make them feel accused.

I'm so stressing about this right now! Honest opinions please, do you think it was a bad idea to send the videos?

No, not a bad idea. It is what most of us WANT to do, but are too wimpy to. The fact that you went ahead and did it is admirable.

I think as long as it was sent with a brief explanation as to WHAT it was, it is fine.

I have offered the link and let people know what it contains, so they can choose to watch or not. Most start, I don't know a single one who could finish it, though.

Thanks Goofy. We've been thinking for a long time that if our families just knew what goes on in factory farms, they would "get it." Last night after spending 1 1/2 hours watching Earthlings, we were just like "people HAVE to see this." It is just so wrong what goes on and it continues to go on because consumers don't have a clue. So last night we were both in super-passionate-activist-vegan mode and we decided to stop worrying about what they thought of us and just get the word out. But as soon as we pushed "send" I was like "WHAT HAVE I DONE?!"

Becca - we did include a big bold warning - CAUTION: contains very graphic material. So maybe some of them won't even watch it. I hadn't thought of that possibility.
