PLEASE CROSSPOST

http://www.wchs.org/

Just spoke with the receptionist at the Wayne County Ohio Humane Society

to confirm that they are indeed having a fundraiser that includes

...."come ride the hog" and a hog roast on July the 12th.

Something is severely wrong with this picture!!!

Please call and ask to speak to the manager. Let him/her know that all

animals need protection. Find out who the board members are! The

manager/director/board members/local newspaper needs to know our disgust

at their lack of concern for all animals.

Everytime I hear about an animal welfare/advocacy groups raising funds off

the flesh of an animal...it boils me to the core!!! We must speak out,

and not allow this event to happen.

I would think the paper would be more receptive to the story if we

approach the issue from the premise that Humane Society suppose to be

advocating for all animals...yet this Humane Society has exceptions! If

the animal happens to be a pig...then even they do not feel it has the

right not to be exploited/abused. However we choose to address this issue

is worth our efforts. Just speak out!

I hate to admit I'm from Ohio after reading this, worse yet I only live 35 minutes from wayne county... but WHAT THE HECK... the humane society is having a pig ride and roast. All I want to know is what they've been smoking and where I can get some

I just sent a letter to the editor of the largest local newspaper for wayne county, the Canton Repository. Here is how it goes.

Greetings,

Recently I was navigating a forum online. While there I found a post talking about the Wayne County Humane Society, being from Stark County I took a little interest. Apparently, the Humane Society is having a bike night, in which they are advertising ride a hog for a dog. Funny, cute, etc. However, they are having a pig roast as the main event. Now I am not one of your "angry vegans", though I am vegan. My theory has always been live and let live. Nevertheless, this seems all too hypocritical to me. This seems to make a statement that animals are only worth caring about if they are cute and cuddly and greet you at the door when you come home from work. But ask many a scientist and they will point out that a pig is more intelligent than most 3 year old children, they are loyal, and make great companions. I simply would like to make the area aware of this hypocrisy and hopefully, encourage the Wayne County Humane Society to take part of their name and be more HUMANE in their fundraisers.
