It is supposed to hurt very, very much.

Furthermore, I have not been able to read anything on this, but, I would worry about the public hygeine of those place.

They have you lie naked, and the lift your legs over your head and wax everything, including your "rear area". What the wax doesn't get, they pluck out with tweezers.

But apparently it is worth it to some.

This is an interesting story

They had this reality show for models on T.V. in which all of the girls (about 20 of them) HAD to get a Brazilian...and only one girl made a big deal out of it. The others said that of course it hurt but it wasn't as bad as they thought it was going to be. Ummm...yeah I confess to actually seeing that.

Alright ladies, yes, I get waxed. Brazillian waxed. And yes, they do practically everything. The first time I got waxed I thought I was going to die. And I have given birth, for pete's sake! So the last time I was at the doctors for my son's regular checkups, I purchased some numbing cream. I cant remember what it was called, but they had given me some to put on his thighs for when he got his immunization shots. I needed more, so I just got enough for me as well. I put in on the areas I knew would be waxed and then covered it with plastic wrap! It needs to stay there for up to two hours. Then I put on my undies and went and did errands. I got the wax and it wasnt nearly as bad.

As for it being unsanitary, I have to disagree. I get it done at a local spa, so I lay down on a really comfortable 'bed', like the kind you lie down on to get a massage. The lady who waxes you gives you some paper undies and you put those on. Then she comes back into the room and just talks you through it. Getting the backside done is pretty embarrasing, but by then you dont care. I figure, I have given birth, I just dont care who sees me down there
. Plus, my husband LOVES it. And I like the fact I dont have to shave. It is sort of red and sore for a few days after. Nothing unbearable, just annoying.

Anyway, yes, it hurts, but I think it is worth it. Good luck.

(oh, and you dont have to lift your leg over your head or anything. You just lie down and bend one leg at the knee and put your foot next to the knee of the other leg. You are much more exposed at the OBGYN. Dont worry)

I've had it done in a salon (wax) and at home(using Nad's). I've done it to a couple of my girlfriends. I've also had my husband help me to Nad my pits.

I'm really lucky. I am, basically, hairless. What little body hair I have is either sparce or fine or blonde or any combo of the above. I have to say, even with almost no natural hair in the pubic area (my hair stops where my labia starts) it really, really sucks. It hurts, hurts, hurts. BTW, I have a very high pain tolerence.

Additionally, what they don't tell you about is the ingrown hairs. Because you are pulling out the hairs by the roots, or breaking them off below the skin, when they grow in you WILL have ingrown hairs. They look terrible, and they hurt like hell. You have to have a really, really good friend get down there and either pop them or use a needle to get the hair out. You can squeeze 'em all you want, but if you don't get the hair out, they just get worse.

All in all, it wasn't worth it to me. I have decided that when I MUST shave, I just use one of the newer razors and it's over in a moment. I do have to say that again, that I really don't have to shave my legs at all, and I only shave my pits about 1X per week. I just don't have that much hair. Since I have a super short, platinum hair cut on my head (sorta like Susan Powder's), I just bleach my pubes when I have my hair colored. It is SO much easier, and my husband likes it better than the bald look.

Just on a side note - he really didn't like the Brazilian look. He was glad when I grew it out. I guess that it was too naked looking for him. Just goes to show you. AND I have seen some web sites (porn), that are all about the hairier the better (truthfully, being as hairless as I am, I never KNEW that so many women have so much hair - I found out that I am the oddball...!?!), so who knows? We never know what men are going to like (or women, if that's the way that you go).....

I have had Brazilians and yes, they hurt but not so much after the first time. Also not unsanitary. It just depends where you go. And I certainly wasn't lying there naked!

I don't have much problem with ingrowns. I am just vigilant about it and use pointy tweezers to sort of lift them out (like scraping, it doesn't hurt). I've never had an infected follicle or a big sore from it. I quite like it (I'm natural at the moment coz I can't afford it) and it makes certain... activities... easier for the other party...

Yea - I do have to agree about the "other" activties. Because I am hairless anyway, that's never been a problem for me, however, from the men with whom I have discussed this (sorry, I don't have a lot of lesbian girlfriends, so I can't discuss their point of view), they don't mind the hair issue. At 40, I'm finally understanding that, for every body type, there is someone who desires JUST that!

I was viligant about the ingrown thing, too - in fact, I body brush each day with a dry brush - but I still had problems with really miserable ingrown hairs. The good news is, if you want to try a Brazilian, hey, go ahead - it ALWAYS grows back if you don't care for it!

The sanitary issue for me is, how do you know for sure they autoclave all the instruments and thoroughly wash their hands?(do they wear gloves?) The reason this concerns me is bc I hear of nail salons all the time that engage in practices that could spread disease between customers.

Before I had it done, I would want to know: Is it regulated (I am sure this is a local thing)? I mean with vaginal and anal secretions and possibly small amounts of blood, I would call my public health department first and ask for advice and info. Does the salon have any violations on record? When were they last inspected? What kind of liscence/training is required of people who do it? I wouldn't just trust a place because it looks nice or bc they say they are sanitary. I want to see an autoclave and people using it.

Certainly, anyone who wants to do it, give it a shot.

But I doubt I ever will. For me there is also an underlying issue that rubs me the wrong way (I apologize for my choice of words!). I understand some practical value of less hair. But if say, my man wanted me to do this, it would strike me as a little odd to go through a lot of pain to have a vulva that resembles a 10 year old girl's more than a grown woman's. I think I would decline.

I am a liscenced estethician, so I'll add my thoughts. If you choose to have this done, go to a reputable salon/spa with a liscenced estethician. There are many shops that offer waxing, but I would be very wary of these, as you are required to have a liscence to wax.

Be sure the estethician wears gloves. Areas such as the armpits and bikini area bleed often. Waxing materials are not to be shared. If you see applicators in the wax warmer, leave. All materials should be new. At a clean establishment, tweezers will be autoclaved. Do not lay naked on a bed without some sort of new, clean dressing on the waxing table.

As Thalia suggested, check with the Health Department beforehand to make sure they are up on their liscences and inspections.

I don't like the barely there look, that just seems a little creepy to me. But if that's what you choose, please look into a sanitary shop.

I would never do it if a guy asked me to do it. I did it because I wanted to. I have a thing about control down there, due to a bad experience I had. Not going into it here. The benefits for him were a bonus, not the reason.

When I was 18 I shaved the WHOLE THING!!! once, and only once, for a guy. He was curious and I was curious, so I thought, what the hell. Well, after I was done I thought it looked really creepy, like a little girl. He thought it was creepy too, so I let it grow back. And can I tell you, it ITCHED LIKE CRAZY!! Never again.

But now I have a 'landing strip' and I like it. It looks neat, as in tidy. Waxing is pretty big here in LA, so having a brazillian is pretty much the norm. Plus, frankly, I am the harriest mo'fo' on the planet. So I feel better when waxed or shaved in that area.

The reason I stopped shaving is because my hair grows so fast I was shaving EVERY DAY!!! and getting a lot of ingrown hair. With waxing I only have to do it every month and I have not had a problem with ingrowns. So for me, it is the best solution.
