16 cocktail waitresses were fired for not being able to fit into size 2 or size 4 uniforms. Wow. That doesn't seem very ethical.

Sixteen cocktail waitresses at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City were fired after being told theyre not a fit for the casinos new sexy uniforms.

All of the 16 women who lost their jobs were middle-age, long-time employees who were happy to retain their jobs after the casinos sale only to lose them because of their appearances in a skimpy costume.
Union officials say that Resorts is using the 1920s flapper-style uniforms as a way to get rid of older cocktail waitresses in order to cultivate a younger clientele.

To clarify....how the HELL is:

"1920's Flapper Style"??

I watched the video, and the women it showed all appeared fit and fine-looking.
I thought this was going to be an issue of body-image/weight-acceptance in the workplace, but its really just piggish sexism and ageism. Gross.

What if the owners will make a lot more money if they hire young, sexy waitresses? Should they keep the older waitresses out of a sense of charity?

They'd also make a lot more money employing illegals, skimping on the security and safety... it's an ethical thing. The pursuit of profit is not everything.

I don't know a single guy who would want to see a 64 year old in that uniform. Lets be real. The women in the video are too old to look good in that "uniform". Looks are fleeting. That's just a fact.

Yet, I think the laws should protect all workers from being fired for succumbing to the natural aging process and I think these women should have been given comparable positions.

I dont know that it is really a "uniform", it looks more like something someone would wear in the bedroom. Should women all be underwear fit for work? Should male waiters be made to wear small g-strings at their jobs to increase profit?

This looks illegal to me and I hope the fired women sue the bastards and win.

My mother-in-law's uniform is more tasteful than that outfit. And she looks really good for a 64 year old (without cosmetic procedures even.) Her waistline is not what it used to be, but she's got great legs.

I was going to say, there's no way in hell that could be legal.

They could sue for wrongful termination.

I know plenty of men in their sixties who would love to see their wives in something like that! I'd be willing to venture there are some older gents (and some younger ones, too) that prefer a more mature woman. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and your generalization of what everyone prefers or what should be considered to "look good" is the same sexist, ageist bull**** that's been holding society back forever.

Hey, now - different strokes for different folks. Some people might be into Party-City-After-Halloween-Discount-Bin role play kink.

I didn't make reality, it is just the way it is. And being female myself, I'm not super happy about it. Hollywood is famous for not hiring women over 40. Why? Because they don't bring in money at the box office.

A 64 year old man wanting to see his wife (whom he loves) in something sexy is different than men in general, wanting to see sixty somethings scantily clad at a casino. Sure, there probably are a few, but if it were at all common, there would be a lot of older ladies working. There aren't.
