I'd like to know what the vegans on VB think of vermiculture/vermicomposting (worm composting) is. I'm about to start my own compost bin and I stumbled upon vermicomposting in a lot of the informational material. My personal philosophy is that NO animal is mine to use or exploit. The idea behind vermiculture (for those of you who are unsure) is that you're providing them with a home and endless food and a place to live, and in turn you get organic fertilizer.

I am not personally interested in keeping worms. I would be sad if they died and it would be worrisome for me - but also because they are not mine to purchase and keep. I feel they belong in nature in the ground. Since I live in an apartment I cannot keep my compost on the ground for "wild" worms to munch on, so I would have to buy the worms.

What does everyone else think?

In case some of us don't feel like rehashing our opinions and getting embroiled in emotional entanglement all over again.

Oh no problem. I just thought you might be interested in seeing the old threads. I'm not sure why they blew up as they did. I was being pretty facetious there with that comment about getting emotional.
