So, weve established that there are many, many pictures of MEAT in both the Veg News print magazine, and online. Why does this matter? After all, a picture is just a picture, right? Unfortunately, this situation exposes a clear issue with the editorial integrity of Veg News. They are KNOWINGLY publishing misleading pictures of MEAT dishes, and passing them off as vegan. If they will stoop that low (and appear to have been doing so for years) what else can we not trust about this formerly erstwhile publication?
If you subscribe to VegNews, I suggest you cancel your subscription and let them know why.

Well, that's disappointing! I generally love VegNews

I posted the link on their Facebook page, lets see if it gets deleted or not...

My posts got deleted from their FB page TWICE, within seconds of posting. They're aware of the issue, they're aware that we're upset, and they're actively squashing discussion of it.

I've lost ALL respect for them.

I don't know that they actually deleted them, they're still there last I checked.

Haha, the stories been posted SIX times in a row on that page now, no way are they shutting anyone up. Even if they really did try to full on suppress the information it would be impossible, it's super easy to just spread the info on other vegetarian sites.

I predict a statement/apology from them within the week, otherwise they'd have to be positively suicidal. Either they apologize and stop or people are going to be unsubscribing in HOARDS. I mean just look what happened with GoDaddy, and that was hardly an animal friendly company to begin with.

I'm not seeing my posts (or any others on the subject) on the VegNews FB page at all? I posted the link in a comment thread that featured the burger pic, and it's still there, but that's it..

Oh, that's because when you first open the page it only shows posts made by VegNews.

Click "Most Recent" in the top right corner of the wall and all the posts by everyone else should come up.

Edit: Nevermind! Posted at the same time

I'm aware of this magazine, although I've never purchased or subscribed. I got a freebie issue once at Farm Sanctuary

But this really is huge and so wrong. I believe in trying to spend my dollars with smaller or dedicated veg companies. Not that I do 100% but I still think it matters. When something like this happens, it's really a betrayal to those who enjoyed giving their money to a magazine they thought was vegan. At least I think this magazine is vegan not vegetarian.

Yes, they promote themselves as vegan.

The sad part is how they betrayed our trust. And even if they start using photos of vegan food, how can we believe them?

To be fair I guess they thought what they were doing was innocent enough, just saving money by using free stock photos of foods that look almost exactly the same. It saves time, money, effort and I guess they assumed no one would know the difference. And fair enough, we really didn't! If those stock photos hadn't come to light no one would have suspected those foods weren't vegan.

But really, I'm positive they'd be able to find passionate vegan photographers willing to work for free if money is the issue, the integrity of a whole magazine isn't worth cutting corners like that. It's hard to not feel betrayed and grossed out when you were drooling over a 'veggie' burger and then find out it's chicken, not cool.

I don't think there was any malicious intent behind it but this needs to be sorted out pronto. A simple apology and a promise not to do the same thing again is all I need, they are generally a good magazine besides this whole debacle.

I think this is ridiculous. If you don't have pictures of the actual food, don't use photos at all! It is highly doubtful that the vegan food looks exactly the same.

It really makes me wonder if the recipes were even tested before publication. If they don't have the budget for a photographer, then they just need to work on making their amateur photos look as good as possible. Plenty of food bloggers have figured it out. But, if no one made the food to photograph it, that's obviously a problem.
