I'm thinking of getting a tattoo of something relating to my love of animals/commitment to vegetarianism, and was just wondering if anyone else has a similar tattoo (or indeed any tattoo) - and whether tattoo ink is veggie/vegan? I want something to signify that I love and care for animals...

When I became vegan I got the word ahimsa written in sanskrit on my bicep (shown below in red if I have done it correctly)

Ahimsa is a religious concept which advocates non-violence and a respect for all life. Ahimsa ([अहिंसा[/COLOR] ahiṁsā) is Sanskrit for avoidance of himsa, or injury. It is interpreted most often as meaning peace and reverence toward all sentient beings. Ahimsa is an important doctrine of Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. Its first mention in Indian philosophy is found in the Hindu scriptures called the Upanishads, the oldest dating about 800 BCE.

Ahimsa was introduced to the West by the Mahatma Gandhi. Inspired by his actions, Western civil rights movements, led by such people as Martin Luther King Jr., engaged in non-violent protests

I now know that some black tattoo inks can be made from animal charcoal so i don't know if any of mine (I have 7) are vegan but plan to be more discerning on my future ones.

No sorry--I don't know how. I got the info and image off of Wikipedia. What I did for my tattoo was to print the page and then enlarge it on a photocopier. Then trace it neatly onto paper as it got a bit blurry when i enlarged it. Kinda the "low tech" way but it worked.

I definately want to do the same thing. I have looked on the internet for things other people have, but so far I haven't found anything that seems totally appropriate. I will have to keep checking this post to see if anyone else has good ideas and can help out in figuring something out

Thanks spider, that was interesting, and something to consider. I saw somewhere online someone had the word "Vegan" tattooed on their wrist, and it looked quite good, but I think I might go for something a bit less obvious, not sure where though. If anyone has any ideas.....post them here!
