HA! I thought this was about the vegan "cheese" slices called "Veggie Singles" and I thought "Hrmm... why on earth would anyone start a thread about fake cheese???"<br><br><br><br>
Is there an online veggie dating service or something? I mean, it's the Internet, it's got <i>everything</i> right???

Yeah, there are a bunch of them, actually:<br><br><br><br><a href="http://www.all4vegan.net/vsc.htm" target="_blank">http://www.all4vegan.net/vsc.htm</a><br><br><br><br><a href="http://www.veggiedate.org/" target="_blank">http://www.veggiedate.org/</a><br><br><br><br><a href="http://www.greensingles.com/" target="_blank">http://www.greensingles.com/</a><br><br><br><br>
But quite frankly, if they arent on veggiebaords <i>(the best place to be)</i>, then I'm not interested!

You folks crack me up! I, like Max, initially thought 'cheese' when I saw 'singles'. Even thought I am currently not single (I have had a boyfriend for the past 7 months), I wouldn't say I'm completely happy with it. I think the next week or so will decide whether he and I stay together much longer or if we decide to ax it. I might be starting a recently-become-single-again thread before too long... who knows?

Yes, I am "single." I don't particularly like that word. It seems to have some sort of silly connotation to it, as though it were short for "swinging single," or as though I am supposed to act like Austin Powers or something. I prefer the term "unmarried," which is more objective. (Although I do understand that "single" can also mean "unattached" or "not involved in a relationship.")<br><br><br><br>
Whenever my (married with children) sister calls and gets my answering machine--after asking "Are you there?" half-a-dozen times and saying "Pick up the phone!" half-a-dozen times and after she finally comes to the conclusion that I am really not here--she'll say something like: "You must be out partying."<br><br><br><br>
Yes, to my sister and brother-in-law, I am enviably single, and my life consists of round-after-round of non-stop parties. I don't know where they get those ideas, but I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.<br><br><br><br>
I really don't "date" much any more. Most of my "dating" experiences have not been particularly good, to put it mildly.<br><br><br><br>
So, what is it about dating or being single that you would want to talk about? I'd be more than willing to "listen" to anything you might have to say on these subjects.

single over here. i'll probably be single for the rest of my life because i'm too darn picky. i mean, how many nice, vegetarian girls that don't drink, smoke, or have sex and are named zeba do you know? i only know one and that.. didn't work <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/bigcry.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

Oh I know, Joe. Sometimes people hear 'single' and think 'promiscuous' or whatever. Some of us are too involved with VB to go out partying even if we were single. LOL

I agree, people coming together in a close relationship for the sole purpose of having fun or for temporary companionship is pretty pointless.

It is precisely because of my distaste for the typical flippant dating scene that I turned down all dates until I was 19 and decided that this good friend of mine was potential material for much more than a casual relationship. The way that guys would ask me out always cracked me up, too. One kid (a coworker then) didn't have the guts to ask me himself, even though he's a loud, flamboyant character. He had another coworker ask me for him, but I don't think he knew that the messenger-coworker was my least favorite coworker there. That didn't go over real big. If he had just asked me himself, we would have been less embarrassed by what the disliked-coworker yelled to the entire dietary dept.

heh. kids! boys!<br><br><br><br>
see, this is another reason i tend to date older men. they take the whole dating thing more serioulsy (well, normally) and arent't so casual about the whole thing. i waited til i was 19 to 'date' also. and i wouldnt even call that dating, since that was a friendship turned boyfriend thing pretty quickly.. i was friends for years before i started becoming more serous with another guy. of course, that is a good thing, since i was 16 and he was 28 at the time. um, yeah. not so legal that would have been.

The problem with college is that by the time I figured out sort of what I was looking for, the men older than me had graduated. There's only a very tiny grad school at my college.

Single single single single single.<br><br><br><br>
I say that word so many times a day I've almost forgotten what it means.<br><br><br><br>
"I hate being single", "I love being single", "I've been single for 6 months now", "Will I be single forever?"<br><br><br><br>
If you say it a lot of times really fast it almost sounds musical.

But of course I am not looking right now. Even if I didn't have my bf, I still wouldn't be looking. There are so many things to consider... going to Spain, graduating from college, getting a masters, the whole shebang.

So, why can't you call each other boyfriend/girlfriend?<br><br><br><br>
What do those terms mean anyway?<br><br><br><br>
Someone told me they have to do with exclusivity and with a commitment to exclusivity, or at least that is the implication.<br><br><br><br>
So if you and Kayakman have been dating exclusively, that sounds like you are boyfriend & girlfriend, unless you are saying that one or both of you see yourself as free to date other people, despite your behavior during the last 5 months. Sort of the dating equivalent of an "open marriage."

Thanks. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"> But I guess I was hoping for a little more serious comments, based on your own experiences.<br><br><br><br>
I have no idea what the dating scene is like in NYC. I occasionally watch "Sex and the City" on tape or DVD from Blockbuster, but that just does not seem very realistic to me.

Thanks for posting those. I didn't know about all4vegan until now. I'm a single vegan female seeking another female (preferably a veg*n but I can't be choosy because I don't have many options to begin with). I just moved to a city that has more than a few dozen people so maybe I'll have some luck here.
